after a couple of days driving with the supra tb, i think i actually like it. sure there are a couple of bugs to work out. before i could only get to about 65 in 4th getting to work, but now i'm at 75+ and she wants to shift into 5th and go. i'm putting the DT header with magnaflow and 2-1/4" pipe on around the end of the month. i expect to see something. maybe not an incredible change, but something.

Yes the Supra swap should work on your 95. Depending on what you want to do with the rig (since it's a 2wd) I'd almost advise leaving it stock. If you do the Supra mod then you're going to need to do the exhaust and get a bigger throttle body to gain the most benefits from the mod. It just gets more expensive from here on out.

I meant just the intake tube from the afm to the throttle body. Made from u/j bends. However when I get time i will try my hand at a sheet metal intake for the 22re. I have worked in shops welding tube turbo manifolds and intakes for mits. Evos. rollcages etc. just need time and money though...

i'm also interested in the required TB mods. I have a stock TB that I didn't change the bore but smoothed it out and slabbed the throttle shaft in half. Am waiting for a 60mm TB off a 5mg to see how close it is to a bolt on, and have the supra afm to go on. Already have the intake bored to 61mm ready to go. Have a spare intake upper/lower off a 92 22re if anybody is interested.

hello everyone, im a newb here and have been lurking in the shadows for a while now learning lots of new mods.. i have a 90 4runner 3.0 and a 91 22re pickup... dialed up the afm on my 91 tonite and it seemed to help a little, gonna hit the junkyard tommorow to see if i can find a supra afm, ... everyone keeps saying mid 80's cressida afm will work or even the camary v6..any particular years ive searched as much as i can in the past forums and cannot find the years

I think the AFM for the 3.0 is a different part number than the 22RE AFM, do a search for 3.0 AFM upgrade.
I just did a quick search for a 3.0 AFM upgrade and i couldn`t find anything, but i remember a post from someone about a year ago were they used an AFM from a V6 camry on a 3.0, i just can`t find the thread.

HERE IS THE INFO:
The only plug-n-play amf is part#22250-43110 for '89-95' 22re, well known for being on the 82 Supra. The other 22250-43150 will not work, but makes a nice housing for your stock electronics if you have the know how to switch them over. the '85ish supra TB will bolt on, but it takes a bit of creativity to get it to work, grab that one long bolt too while you're at it. one of the biggest things to watch for is the tps mount. you need one that takes the four prong plug with the round body. the other with the three plug square body wont work. the Celica guys have been doing this for years with their 22re's. lots of good "google-able" forums out there.

now that i've done all of this modification to my perfectly engineered toyota i'm fighting the adjustments. be prepared for some mildly involved tweaking to get it right. so far what ive found is that i need to rotate the big black afm wheel about 2-4 clicks counter clockwise to richen her up, only because of all the mods. my timing is going to be somewhere other than 5 degrees. there are several unknowns when you go messing with what already works. another time another place. good luck out there!

well,i went to the junkyard and got me the afm....
and since i am doing the intake..i am changing to a electric fan
got one from a ford probe..dam thing fits like a champ...(no triming)

Hey everyone, I'm curious if anyone has passed smog with this AFM mod in California. I know It isn't hard to swap out AFM's every 2 years for the test but I would rather not....
Trust me I have had some CRAP experiences with the Cali smog nazis in the past.

It should pass a smog test with no problems, its a factory part and the person doing the visual inspection and testing won`t know the difference. Im so glad i don`t live in the peoples republic of california any more. No smog testing here in idaho.

Your so lucky, it's like every single engine mod I think of doing, it's the first thing to pop into mind. I already have a brand new cat, so hopefully if it were to run a little richer after the swap the cat would compensate and keep my HC's down. I'm not too worried about the visual, because like you said, stock Nippon Denso part. I guess I'll let you know in a year after my next test. It just seems like as I read this thread there were no California swaps done, which as I stated earlier, tends to scare me away.

I would just go a head and do the AFM upgrade, its worth it. Even if you had to swap back to the stock AFM for smog testing its not hard to do and you only have to smog test every two years.

I've been looking at this mod myself and I too live in commiefornia.
My question is this though, what if you were to do both this mod and the intake battery swap at the same time? Would that in turn cause a smogging issue?
I know that the ready to go diy K&N "cold air" kits for the 22re have carb numbers so how might that affect things, with any custom tubing not having said carb numbers.
