Painting my Canopy???
Hey guys, picked up a cheap canopy for my rig. The truck is red and the canopy is faded blue which isn't gonna work for me. Should I get it painted red or attempt it myself? I could probably live with a black canopy as well. Suggestions?

Grab some 1500 grit sand paper and sand the heck out of it. Once you get the surface roughed up a bit go grab some primer in cans (black or grey) and shoot it. Then later on if you want to try and paint it yourself you already have a good primer base. Just be aware that matching a faded factory paint color is really hard unless you know what you're doing.
I'd say shoot it black and leave it.

just remember, every good paint job starts with good preperation
don't just grab some spray paint and go at it, do like Junkers said; sand it, prime it, and paint it; maybe even clear coat it for protection

I say you prep it right and try to match it to your truck..and if you can't then stop being lazy and try painting the truck again. I'm sure with some common knowledge and a long weekend and a garage or one of those parking tents (basically to try and keep the truck away from outdoor elements..wind,dust, dirt etc) you could do a pretty good job on your truck.. Rent an air compressor from homedepot or some hardware store and buy yourself a spray gun from harborfreighttools.com and you should get great results for minimal money loss.. But if you want a quick fix then I suggest you just sand it down properly and give it at least 2 good coats of black primer. Good luck and feel free to take some pics of your project. I know I'm interested in the outcome.

I scotched brite my canopy and picked up some Gloss Rustoleum red and black in the 1 quart can, then added black to the red a little at a time till I was satisfied with the color, thinned it out a bit and sprayed it with an HVLP gun. It came out pretty good.

if you were closer to me i would teach you how to paint that thing like pro, painting is stress releiving for me. just google some painting lessons so you can get the idea of how to do it and then practice with a good primer job, if you up the primer you will not have to worry as you can always fix primer easy. if you have any question about different materials or procedures just PM me

I just figured for someone who doesn't want to spend much money and doesn't have painting equipment black is easier with a spray can. I could get someone to add the red stripe or maybe even pinstriping.
