I've searched and searched and it just confuses me more because there's "front inner" and "front outer" pieces and then there's 4wd yada yada... could anyone tell me what exactly I should buy to replace the front wheel bearings?

I haven't seen anything else that includes all the little washers and stuff..

What makes you think that every bearing requires replacement. Or any bearing does, for that matter???

Disassembly, solvent/compressed air cleaning and inspection of each bearing and race is in order first.

Re-pack and seals may well be all that is required.

Well there is a slight jiggle of play in the drivers side wheel when I grab it and try to shake when jacked in the air, as well as a harmonic humming noise at certain speeds, and also have read that it's something that might as well be done while I am changing brake pads and rotors..

If you are changing out rotors, I would pound out those front bearings.

A quick explanation:
Front wheel uses two bearings per side. These bearing are tapered roller bearings. If you have play, then you adjust the big nut and "tighten it up". To far and they burn up, not enough and you have play.

What? According to Toyota, the bearing preload is 0.6– 1.8kgf, 1.3–4.0lbf http://web.archive.org/web/201204242.../5frontaxl.pdf

According to the video (if you wasted all 45 minutes (!!) watching it), the presenter thinks "from memory" the manual says 10 lbs!! (Plus he uses 20 ft-lbs instead of the spec 25 ft-lbs for torquing the nut, but given how far off the rest of it is I'm not going to worry about that detail.)

Frequent visitors to this forum know that the Toyota FSM is available, and easy to get to. It is interesting to me why some people will bypass what Toyota says and rely on some guy in a greasy sweat-shirt on YouTube. (Okay, there are plenty of YouTube videos where the presenter will actually show you the page of the FSM on which she relies. Like South Main Auto channel, for instance.)

I think I just wasted two sets of Koyos.
I was thinking... This can't be right, but ok... It's a fat 4x4 tire...

I need to research the FSM, which I have, printed the fk out...

So it's 1.8 KG of starting preload, right?
I'll try to save the bearings....

I did feel the hub all the time in the first days... Never got hot?

Wasn't there something in the fsm about new vs used bearings?

Sorry for providing incorrect information. Mine is a 87 4-Runner.

So I see in the 88 FSM it states up to 5.7 KG. So maybe I didn't kill them after all.

So I am guessing they must have changed the setup in the 93+ models?
