I have been checking out this site for quite a while. I must say I am quite impressed with the amount of knowledge on here. I am a first time 4runner owner I bought my 95runner just a few months back. The previous owner had made a few mods Warn hubs, aftermarket rear springs(Old man Emu I think) headers, jardine exhaust, larger throttle body, K&N filter. These are the ones I know about.
After looking at what some are doing on here what are some simple mods that I could do? Possibly some that may have been overlooked ?
I plan on running the 3.slo until it pukes. I really like the idea of running a new 4.3 Chevy in its place and keeping the 5 speed --Any suggestions?
I also am considering some new (larger) tires and wheels (anything I should look for) I just don't want to make any big goober mistakes only to post it up on here and have you guys tell me how stupid I am I am pretty mechanically inclined (alredy replaced a leaking fuel dampner) so not too much intimidates me. So help a brotha out with some suggestions.

Suggestion #1: Search. Spend some time perusing the various threads and posts. Your questions have been answered 200 times each. (yes, i read the first part saying you have been checking us out for a while)
Suggestion #2: Instead of chevy, check out the 3.4L swap. Plenty of power, and about the same cost.

From what I see your runner is looking real clean. I'd definitely slap some armor and sliders on there first, of course only if you plan on off-roading her. I have to agree with the 3.4 swap, just to keep it all yote. Welcome!!

prolly gotta buy both if there isnt a kit.. look at marlincrawler.comor toytec or do a combination body/mild suspension..search search and search you will find the answers...
basicially you need to choose a bracket lift or a bj spacker tbar crack front end lift then a set of leafs and springs to match the rear.. unless you swap the fron axle for a solid axle and do leafs up front... so much can be done with the right knowledge and youve found the site dig deep you will find any answer you need!

Does it rattle when you are in gear on the gas, off the gas? Could be something as stupid as linkage, could be a throw out bearing. Usually you will hear the throw out bearing in between shifts, or through all gears. Tranny can get expensive. Check linkage first. You can do that. Its never too soon to start looking for cheap spare parts while your car is running though, ie: engine, tranny...

I did some research on here and the tranny is making more noise in the odd numbered gears. It is loudest in 5th.On occasion it will pop out of 1st when taking off from a dead stop. Also when it is cold the clutch makes some whining noises. My rig has 183K on it so it is due for a clutch job. I just have a sneaking suspicion that my 3.slo is gonna puke soon. If thats the case I want to wait it out to do a 4.3 swap. I like the idea of the 3.4. Just my feeling that the chev would be a little cheaper ??
Ya know that might be a cool write up on counting down the last days of the 3.slo in my rig and the build-up of a new motorvator!
