need engine help with my 89 3vze
i ran my toyota into a pretty big puddle, and its been broken for about 6 months now and i cant take it i have to fix it i love my truck lol. was gonna drop a new motor in but it seems like too big of a hassle. i think i sucked some water into the motor through the intake, thents when it died. it seems seized up, pulled the plugs and drained the oil. oil have like an inch of water at the bottom of the bottle. tried to start it after all that but still wont go. what do u all think is wrong with it-in the motor, is there anything i can do to get it running again? what aprts do u think got messed up when water gets sucked in? it cant be that big of a problem---right? any help would be appreciated, its snow'n here again and i need that good ol' pick up runnin.

ouch. That is a bummer.
Did you try cranking it over with the plugs removed to blow water out of the cylinders?
Otherwise, you may have bent things internally and it's not gonna go any more. You can bend vavles, break pistons, bend rods, bend the crank, or even bust stuff in the block...
This followed me through a water crossing and it was entirely too deep for him - pic attached. Amazingly difficult to winch him back against that current. He did a quick plug pull & crank and oil change and fired it up and he drove it home. Not everyone is so lucky.

i tried maybe a week after it happened...it wasnt nearly as deep and wasnt under that long though. heres my pics... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2169601 but these were on 2 different occasions. the first one was where it died, the second pic is where it was a lot deeper, and ran good as hell still. i pulled the plugs n did the oil, but she wont crank over.

Silly question - but is the battery charged?
Also, could the starter be stuck? (rusted.)
On most engines you could pull the plugs and turn it over with a breaker bar on the crank. Not sure if the access is good enough on that one though.

Little puddles like that is why they make snorkels.
Aah well, I would try the breaker bar. If that doesn't work then I'd say drop the oil pan look inside. Leaving it for 6 months is a BIG mistake but you can't fix that now.
For future referance all it takes is forwater to hit the headlight and it'll get sucked up like a kid with a coke.

yea, i had a snorkel on order---it cost almost 400 and i didnt want a rigged up pvc one. but im gonna try and manual do it this sunday, the battery is charged, and i was using my bronco with cables. so im gonna pull it with my bronco or manually try to get it over with the crank n a breaker bar...i dunno, i think it might have something to do with the starter-again. i had to replace it several of times, when i tried to start it it jsut made a "clunk" noise, and it was my starter previously. so ill mess with that as well i guess, thanks for your help guys, i really appreciate it...o and flamedx4- that creek/river u guys went through is sick! i dunno how u made it through even...lol

Here's the same area on a nicer day. By the way for all you history buffs, this pic was taken in 1986 and the Runner was still shiny new and bone stock, except for 30X9.50 BFG ATs. I know because I tore up that bumper during hunting season '85 replaced it with a homemade bulletproof model in the summer of '86 and in the pic the bumper is messed up, hence sprinf of 86..
