My Buddy Needs A New Landcruiser Motor

I think he has a '98 Landcruiser. He has the inline 6 w/24 valves. The oil pressure dropped and we could here the top end scream metal on metal, but I did not hear any knocking. I think the oil pump busted and that may be all. It was shut off immediately, within 15 seconds. Shop says $13,000 for a new motor and $10,300 for a used installed. I called bs! Anyone here have a line on a motor. I'll have specifics later when I talk to him.

Thanks,
O

98+ has the 4.7l V8 as it is a uzj100...
- 97 has the I6 and should be waaay cheaper than that to put a new motor in.

Rebuilding at shop rate with a new shortblock from Toyota should cost that much. That is a fact.

If you are paying someone to do it, rebuilding or putting the same in will always be cheaper. Swapping engines with someone else behind the wrenches is not cheap, fast or easy.

Thanks all. I guess maybe it is a '97 or older. I know it has the 24V inline 6, I saw the motor. I have never messed or seen the Landcruiser before so forgive me. I think it is the oil pump. They went to another shop and it was $2,500+ for another motor and install. That seemed more reasonable to me. Is the oil pump internal? Do you have to break down the motor just to get to it?
