Which muffler for 22re

So I am getting a new muffler and tailpipe soon and just wanted some opinions or reviews. I want something that will flow well and make a low tone, What I dont want is some loud ricer pipes.

we had a customer come in today with an old celica with a 22re. fully rebuilt, oversized valves, springs, pistons, cam, etc. 82 supra afm. had the stock exhaust manifold, a stock cat, and a flowmaster 40. thing sounded MEAN. so id go with maybe a 2.25" exhaust with a header, high flow cat, and a flowmaster 40.

I have the Flowmaster 50 series Deltaflow and love it.....not annoyingly loud, and provides a nice deep tone for a 4 cylinder (especially with a header and hi-flow cat).

I have an '89 truck w/22RE and been running the Flowmaster 40 with 2.25" pipes and LG Enginerring exhaust header w/cheap flow through CAT for years now and it sounds real good! This setup gave me a real kick in low end power too.

Cool, I was thinking about flowmaster but now it's sealed. I'm thinking 60 series since iit is made for smaller displacement motors, unless someone could tell me why not.

You don't need a muffler I cut mine off ages ago right after the cat and run a side exit. The truck sounds exquisite in my opinion, not real loud but nice and throaty. Course this might not fly in other parts of the country.

go to flowmaster's website and listen to the 60. it is flowmaster's ricer muffler. unless that's what you want, i would pass. Most of us on here have 40 or 50 series mufflers.

i gots a 40 series also lmao but the Po used a 3"in and dual 2.5 out quite funny actually seeing the 1.25 pipe size up to a 3" inlet but it sounds pretty good for a four banger, now my dodge with the same setup is awesome!!

Ummm, I guess I'm a bit confused. Most of those mufflers are made for V8's and when put on a 4 banger there are no ill effects? Just seems like the truck will lose some power instead of gaining any no?
I have been you tubing sound files to get a closer idea as to what my truck will really sound like and it just confuses me more, some sound good some bad. But I did find a few with s10 on the 60 series that sound like what I want....now I am beyond confused.
Supposed to let the mechanic know Monday what I want.

Heres a clip of one of the 60's I like, dude they dont sound ricer to me here, although on the flowmaster site they sound extremly buzzy-ricer

well you also have to take into consideration the inlet and outlet diameters creating the back pressure for the smaller engine. where a big block might want a 3" or 3.5" in/out, the smaller motors do fine with a 2-2.25" pipe. I had my cat back done with a 2.25" pipe with a HD 3 chamber 50 series and it runs really well. definitely noticed some more power.

Oh, and regards to the 60's, i had only heard it on the flowmaster site, so i didn't have another reference point. but even after hearing the video clip, it still has a little too much rice to me on the top end.

this is what mine sounds like. Granted, it is a v-6, and it's not the greatest recording but you get the idea.

I have a cherry bomb glasspack, then side exit, and it sounds nice for a 4cyl. I bought it this way and dont mind it, its a little loud gearing down(sounds like a semi, no joke) but not anoying. Has a realy low hum too. 22re

If you can handle it loud the Flowmaster 40 is what you want. If you close to the same sound but a little quieter go Magnaflow. I went Magnaflow and I'm happy.

Thanks evryone, gave me something to chew on. Still torn between the 40 or 50. Never had loud pipes before and maybe a little worried if I can handle the noise. Yeah I know I'm old and lame.

at least with my 50 series, it took me a while to really here it! it had less interior noise than my stock one just driving around town. when you really romp on it you can here a bit, but it is nothing over powering. a very nice muffler if you want a little rumble, but you don't want it very loud.
