Stock Exhaust size

What is the size of the piping going between the cat and muffler

If you call a parts place and get them to look up the part number for an exhaust clamp for your truck, that's an easy way to tell.

IIRC, the stock is 1 7/8".

so if i were to order a new aftermarket muffler would i order it with a 1 7/8 inlet or bigger so the echaust slips into the inlet?

if you order a muffler for an 1" 7/8's it should be flared on each end to slide over the exhaust....i think

yeah i'm replacing the muffler and tail pipe, but not with a stock muffler.

well i'm not sure but to me it looks like the tailpipe is a different size than the pipe leading up to the muffler so i couldn't really test that without cutting it. but then again i'm sure if they are actually different sized.

no by test pipe i mean removing the cat and putting a tube (called a test pipe) in place of the cat, then running to your muffler. sounds mean as heck. ... not healthy to the environment though. hence, the 'test pipe' meaning its not permanent. (or is it...?)

as much as i'd like to do that, i feel like it would take to much effort, and i won't be able to pass MA inspection if i left it like that.
