Does anyone have a good pic of this intake? This might work better for what I'm trying to accomplish under my hood (freeing up space for the Extremeaire)...

Here are some great pictures from an auction on ebay. They show you what the intake looks like and how far back the TB will be. It might be do-able with some modification to the fire wall. It'll be close though, that's why I opted for the 5VZ-FE intake. Maybe you can make it work though.

Hey Dan
I hope all is well with you. In post #53 you list necessary items for the conversion. Off of a 5vz you state complete intake plenum (3 pieces), throttle body, gaskets. What are the three pieces of the intake plenum minus the throttle body? I just purchased on e-Bay, auction number 7917116506 a 5vz intake if you could take a look, tell me if I got all the pieces I need or did I miss something. Hows the donation fund going? Thanks for all your doing to help us out. I know your busy but if you get me an answer before my stuff ships Monday I'll throw another 5 bucks in the pot. Thanks

Sorry to get back to you so late, but yes.....that is exactly what you need. You got a great deal too. I paid more than that for mine if I remember right.

Guys, the project should be a go as soon as I get the engine back in 2 weeks. The mechine shop is backed up and believe it or not, I was actually bumped ahead because my dad does work for them. So we're looking at 1 1/2-month until actual run time. Could be before that, but I'm going to have to see what I can do about sensors, cold start injector, etc.

The fund is pretty much not doing anything, but I think I might be able to cover it now. I'm going to start looking for dynos around here too. Maybe when I get mine all done and the write-up, this will make a good winter project for someone.

Dan - I pickked up a AFM from an 89 Cressida (7M motor). The size of the intake on the Cressida AFM versus the 4Runner one is night and day. I'll post up pics later, but I was floored to see the difference.

Do you see any reason I can't run this with my current setup? My engine has had no internal work, nor TB/headers - just an open element under the hood and a Borla cat back. Seems like better breathing could only help...

If you don't mind me asking cebby, how much did it run you?

I don't see any reason why you couldn't use it on a stock motor. If it plugs right in go for it. Do us a favor though......can you get gas milage figure before and after install in give us some seat of your pants dyno results?

On another note......there several Cressidas in the salvage yard here.......all with 7M as far as I can remember. I'll see if I can get the yard next week when I pick up my engine and round some up for us all.

It appears that it is not a straight bolt in - only from the standpoint of the exit on the unit being larger than the hose going to the TB on the 3VZE. This is fine by me, since I plan to do a custom intake anyway.

An intake is nothing and I'd say a good idea to do anyway if you're upgrading the AFM. So sounds good to me. I might be able to get the yard here on sunday or monday to see how many I can scrounge up.

On a side note for someone.......and something I would have jumped on if this was on ebay before I started on my engine. There is a Hilux front clip on ebay with the diesel engine. To me that's better than the 3VZ-E, 3VZ-FE head swap, 5VZ-FE or the 5VZ-FZE (supercharged).

Yes, 7MGE. The 7MGTE uses a different unit that won't (probably) work with the 3VZE.

Funny thing, I asked these guys about Camry heads and he told me I'd have to buy the whole motor. That got me thinking... Is the block diffferent since it's a front driver, or could I just take the whole engine, swap out the intake for a 5VZE and bolt it up to my tranny?

That would probably be too easy...

OK - I pullled my AFM today to get some comparison shots of the 3VZE AFM and the 7MGE AFM. The connector plug is the same on both and the holes/studs on the inlet side are the same pattern/spacing. I also took some measurements..

3VZE AFM - P/N 197100-2920

Inlet Dim: 1.91"h x 1.93"w
Outlet Dim: 2.585" inside diameter (2.8" outside)
Overall Height: 3.28"h

7MGE AFM - P/N 197100-3630

Inlet Dim: 2.48"h x 1.93"w
Outlet Dim: 2.9" inside diameter (3.15" outside)
Overall Height: 3.88"h

And now, how about some pics? (3VZE AFM is on the right)

It won't work until I get a hose large enough to seal the AFM to the TB.

Cebby, those are awesome pictures. I'll let you guys know if I can find a few next week or not.......might be later in the week though because my dad needs help getting caught back up in the shop.

I'm not sure if you can use the 3VZ-FE as a bolt in or not. The only plus side to doing that over the 5VZ-FE is that is should be "plug and play". I'd be worried about the motor mounts......if that will bolt up, try it.

If not you can source all of the parts that you need from this site.

www.car-parts.com

You can find the cheapest parts out there on here. :pat: Now I've showed you all where I got my parts for so cheap, happy hunting.

One more part that you'll need is the 5VZ-FE fuel rail. I think the 3VZ-FE one will work also since the lover intakes are the same. I picked one up for $5 (for both sides).

I should get my engine back this week and start work on it this weekend. Hopefully we'll have results soon.

The u-pull (Wagners in Zelionople. PA) had it pulled from the motor and had it inside their warehouse. The Cressida it came out of only had 59,000 miles. Check the yard's policy on dead parts. These guys have been good to deal with - I've never had a bad part yet. I think if the yard thinks the parts have any value, they pull them and warehouse them. Leavving them out in the elements for years can't be good...
