Can I ask that anyone sending money to the fund, please make sure it comes from a bank acount. If it's from a card, it will cost me $0.50 to accept each donation and I'll have to upgrade my account. Thank you all.

Dan, I'm in, Paypal money will be sent shortly. I'm looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition. Also of note, I picked up the 82 celica/supra MAF body with the larger intake, some serious mods necessary for stock air cleaner but I visited the ol' Pick and Pull today and discovered the air box for the 85 cressida, the top is an almost perfect fit for the lower portion of the 4runner air box and the MAF bolts right up(I believe you could also use the MAF off the cressida as it also has the larger intake). I havent put it on the truck yet I thought the info might be helpful.

Hey,
I have been following this thread from the beginning. Great ideas! I have a blown head gasket on my X-Cab. I am interested to see how this turns out. I am a newbie, any information on 3.0 modifications is always appreciated.

Hello all! I'm new here, I do most of my posting at 4x4wire, anyhow, I just R&Red my 3.0, oversize valves, injectors....! I put $1800 into my engine & I put her on the dyno today,195HP! So, it can be done! You can make a semi-fast 3.0!!! :pat:

Welcome Harry!

What all did you do to your 3.0? With the valve job, did you do a port and polish too? Same injectors or oversized? Details man, details!!!

Where in PA are you?

I'm curious about the injectors also. I have no plan to use oversized valve on the head swap project, but am very interested to see if 7M injectors were used and if not, what size aftermarket injectors were used. I'd say that if Harry is making 195hp with his engine, there is no reason why this head swap with all the little mods that we have talked about shouldn't make about the same or more hp.

I have no intension of dyno testing my Runner when the swap is complete, just so the board knows. I'll be upgrading tires to at least 33s and that will effect accurate dyno readings due to drivetrain loss. If someone has a formula to calculate drivetrain loss I might consider it. Don't tell me 20% loss for RWD because that's a rough estimate that everyone uses.

Anyway, let us know more details on your mods to your 3VZ. Maybe we can work some into the head swap project that we're working on.

Sent you $5. Hopefully will send you another $5 next week. How much have you raised so far? I'm quite anxious to see this thing done. Thanks again for all the info, Jake

I ported & polished the heads after the HG started to leak @ 297,000 original miles! I put oversize valves and injector in her! i bought my eng. parts from www.toyotaperformance.com pricey, but worth it! Yeah, she runs! Next month I'll be putting a 2 1/4 cat-back on her, be advised: 2/1/2 will cause to much BP & you'll defeat your purpose! I had 135 HP when my HG went TU's, and after I R&R'ed her, Wow! What a diff.!
I love the 3.0! When I worked for Toyota, I'd do HG recalls 6 days a week! :pat: I learned to love the 3.0! My truck is all/mostly stock! I plan on raising her up soon,(that's my next feat!) I run 31" tires, yeah, she'll smoke'm!
Good Luck ALL! BTW, I Live in Jim Thorpe, Gateway to the Poconos!
The '88 - '90 is the best 3.0, IMHO, after that the 3.0 went down hill!

I'm glad to hear that last comment since I have a '90 that was built in '89. Why do you feel it went downhill after that? Is there something different about the engine?

So you kept your stock heads, just had them ported and polished, threw in oversized valves, and larger injectors?

No change in the VAFM or TB?

Did you use larger injectors from performance. Where they the Lucas and did you have to adjust the pigtails? Who did the PnP? I am itching to finish my truck. Anyone on this board have any machine shop recomendations in the Buffalo NY area? Maybe something fairly close by if I have to ship. I don't mind spending the money, but I don't want to waste it. BTW, who's valves did you use. One last question, why are 89-90 the best? I have a 91. Thank you

They went downhill after that because they had to comply w/fed. standards.
Asbestos for the HG's was out and the new was in! Sad but true!

Yes all above is true, but, I did use performance parts! I do have to come clean though: My cat is missing, so next month I'm going to put her back on when I do a full exhaust system. The saddest thing about the 3.0 was that mis-engineered crossover! That's a downright shame! The 3.0's are pretty much dogs when att. to a autotrans! The 3.0 can't breathe that's half the problem with that engine, but I like the 3.0!

They were not Lucas! To tell you the truth, the machine shop did my heads and he asked me what I wanted, I told him OS Valves & injectors! I did the engine myself!
I had the Heads done at a local machine shop who does some outstanding work, My heads cost me over $500 more like $600!
The '89 - '90 IMHO are better, (This is only my opinion!) 'cause I seen very few w/the dreaded HG problem! Before my HG started to leak I had 297,000 orig miles on her! She served me well as well as my "88 I had also!
I could have done a 3.4 swap, but I don't have >$5000 to do that! I probably would have attained more power, torque....! But, .....!

I know the need for header flanges were mention and maybe other brackets and such may be needed. Just stumbled across this, not sure if it'll be cheaper, but it is an option.

I'm looking into having someone do the flanges. I'll let you guys know what I find out.

I'll look into this as an option and we can weigh out cost.
