Mods

hey guys i have been working on mt truck for about a year lifting it and getting tires well i am still in school and only have a part time job. got 33's and 2 inch body lift and 1 1/2 of suspenion lift i am kid of new to offroading and want to do some more mods but don't really have a lot of cash so what would be some things i could help me in the trails and help in the power subject as well. increasing the MPG would be good to. If anybody has anything please let me know. i know some things about trucks but not a great deal of stuff.
thanks ken

if you dont mind diving into the engine...

oversized valves,
cams,
headers,
PNP,
exhuast,

and if you dont mind rebuilding the bottom end, small amounts of nitrous or a turbo will work too.

valves, pnp, and exhaust can be done quite cheaply.

Out of curiosity bumpin', how much money have you dropped on your 3.0? Thanks, Eric.

about 1400 thus far, which includes:

Rock Gasket HG set
EPN grade 10.9 headbolts
PNP
Weasy2k's cams
EPN 1mm oversized valves
EPN 3 angle valve job
EPN complete rebuild of my top end including reshimming for weasy's cams.
That aslo includes shipping.

I have NOT added headers and I thinks that's the missing link for my truck right now. But its DEF. faster now, as she will pull to 95 without much ado and had plenty more after that.

But keep in mind when your truck weighs 4800+lbs anything less than 250+hp is going to seem slow....

How come no one mentioned Cootees ISR Mod and drop in filter? Why not the Taurus Fan Mod? That''s less than $150 and 3 hours work for some improved power, gas mileage, and throttle response. A slight, but noticable, difference anyways.

What's PNP ?

the best bolt on buck for the dollar is going to be cams. Since this is an OHC engine swapping cams can be done at the same time that you do your timing belt - which should be done ever 75,000-90,000 miles pending your driving conditions. For 400 bux youll get MORE than headers will provide and IMO, cams will be easier to install than headers, the best part is youll get more power at all rpms, increased gas mileage, and the engine will run cooler.

I have a set of the cams Im speaking of and lemme tell ya, I LOVE em!!!

-Gears..not only for better offroading, but puts some more power to the ground, and even may better your MPG
-Rear Locker...if ur gunna be in the rears anyway
-Better Skid Plating and Body Protection...always a plus when doing "cheap" mods that will actually make a difference
-Exhaust System...slight gain in power, nice sound!
-Drop-In or compete Air Intake Kit...make the engine breathe! power/MPG
