I am looking to do this mod this weekend, wow this site rocks.

BTW, I have the 3VZ (in case anyone missed the sig )

I guess instead of blocking off my EGR, I could trade my toy for a Flex-Fuel Suburban with all the CA legal Emissions equipment and get 10 less MPG than my old Toy and do the whole world a favor. And while I'm at it, I could throw away my old house A/C and get a new one because what harm is a big old hunk of metal in a landfill as long as I'm using 10 less kilowatts per year? The true answer to the world's decay is more homicide and less litigation. It's already overpopulated and we ain't doing nothing to stop it. In the meantime, I want to go ride more trails.

Part of that makes sense... But I have a simple solution to solve the 'overpopulation problem'

Go kill yourself.

Harsh? yes. Death is the only 'solution' to 'overpopulation'

There is no solution to 'overpopulation because the world isn't overpopulated. Parts of it, yes. But not the whole world.

Do I really want you to go kill yourself? No. When you say nonsensical things like that, what do you expect for a response?

And to stay on topic.... I blocked off my EGR about a month ago and my truck is running a little smoother and I have less engine bay clutter! yay!

Here is the first source I found to prove my point: http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/sta...t/big_picture/

Here is part of what they said.

Oil consumption has increased seven-fold in the last 50 years and meat production, marine fish catches and carbon emissions from fossil fuel burning have all at least quadrupled. And freshwater use increased six-fold last century.

According to one recent study, the human race is consuming the Earth's resources at a rate that is 20% faster than it can replenish itself, with the result that we would need 1.2 Earths to sustain this lifestyle.
Look at these numbers too.

http://www.ibiblio.org/lunarbin/worldpop

I only said what I said because driving a Prius and using a canvas shopping bag is not a real solution. Canvas shopping bags and Prius's will eventually take there place in a landfill along with every other good idea that environmentalists think are a step in the right direction.

Visit southern CA someday and you will see why I'm so cynical. Visit Dallas and New York, then the capital of India
huge and growing population is overstraining natural resources
.

It doesn't matter if Minnesota, Death Valley, The Sahara, or the top of Mt. Everest are safe from over population, the human race is burning up resources faster than it's possible to renew and creating waste faster than space can be made.

One or two blocked off EGR valves won't matter in the grand scheme. Plus, it can't be good for the environment when you have to use a can of carb cleaner to clean all that damn soot out of the back of your throttle body and upper intake.

I agree with you on a few things there, and I hate to sound like such an ass, but... Maybe you should go live in a country where the government has mass genocide. That sounds so much better, right? China is doing there part, I guess... Only allowing you to have one child, and if you have more than one you will face major fines and possible imprisonment.

I have been to Dallas, Vegas, Baltimore, Chicago and many other large cities. Are they over populated? sure. But that's because people CHOOSE to live there. No one is forcing them.

Even if the world was over-populated. The only solution would be for millions and millions of people to die. I suggest if your really in favor of that you should step up to the plate.

i know that im gonna sound like an idiot here, and yes, i have read the whole thread (including the genocide banter) but im not sure that anyone ever clearly answered the question of; if you are going to do the soda can blcokoff, do you need to silicone it, or can you leave it with just the metal plate?

I used some pretty thin aluminum (thicker then a pop-can's thickness though) on the intake port, then put on a gasket I made. Worked great. However, I used the same thickness on the exhaust port with the same type of gasket material. The heat was just wayyy too much for it and warped it/burned up the gasket almost immediately. Needless to say, I had an exhaust leak! bad! Also needless to say, I had to make a new plate with some thicker steel. Problem solved!

That help?

The solution to over-population isn't suicide. That's stupid, how bout the crackheads stop having children or the military wives stop screwing the neighbor while johnny is in Iraq fighting for HER right (not really a right) but the privledge to screw Johnny the neighbor?

This whole going Green thing has my town (a buncha dumb hippies) up in arms demanding this and that stupid idea which the end result is more waste... I could spend all night elaborating on that, like how my store has decided to implement a compostable type trash only trash bin today which was filled with non-compostable trash by the wonderful idiots of society I deal with everyday. All the while we wasted more $, more paper, more plastic, hell even chucked the old trashcan to the landfill (not even kidding).

I have no desire for children, the economy sucks, I sometimes wonder why my parents decided to bring me into this effed up place. I'm sorry but the solution to overpopulation isnt genocide or suicide. It's education. Something even America lacks incredibly.

Agreed. But that's something that will never change.... The world is full of sin, rebellion, cheaters, thieves and liars. Its just part of the world... However, we are all given a choice. The Bible says (whether you believe it or not) to live in the world, but not of the world. That's something I struggle with everyday.

Go get a composite gasket kit from Auto Zone or O'Reilly. You can cut them to fit.

The biggest struggle is to see the world as it is without judgment.

What is the best way to block off the EGR so it can easily be put back to stock for Smog Check Day. I was thinking you could just put a piece of sheet steel between two gaskets where it comes into the upper intake.

And to add to my earlier banter, I offer this Movie quote from one of my favorites from '99:
Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure.
I know I sound sick. I just hate crowds. Thank god Clinton didn't take away all the fun places to go run around to get away from the rat race.

I think it would work fine for the intake port, not sure on the exhaust though... I think I used a little of the form-a-gasket stuff on the exhaust + the gasket I made.... the 1/4 inch plates would be just fine imho!

I love this thread
A properly functioning EGR wont affect your idle.
Now I've had an EGR clog up and it idled like poo poo, but a working one doesnt affect idle or WOT. Vacuum test that bad boy. See when it actually does anything.
