Just blocked off my EGR....

i bought a cal toyota for the prospect of future smog regs. that gas temp sensor on the top of the egr @ the upper intake can evidently be fixed. from what i understand you go to radio shack and buy a $1 pack of 5 pieces of 10k ohm resistors. simply unplug the thing and jump the connection. problem solved. i am going to remove that thing from the egr and thread in a bolt. that gas temp sensor is almost 2 bones for the cheapest one i could find. f that. i just want my check engine light to stay off for once.
as for the egr block off, i've been hearing about people doing that for as long as i can remember using a cut to form soda can or the like. i'm tired of all the carbon build up in my plenum so i think i might just go ahead and block 'er off.

Just getting kneedeep in it. Some one should have told me how long that pipe is. I thought it would pull out east and just be a small flanged pipe... It's not, it's about 6 inches long and won't pull all the way out. I'm also replacing the pcv valve while I'm in that area. Make sure when you're blocking off the egr to have a hack saw on hand

hey just some info for people with smog laws at least in Cali i have my egr blocked of but you have to leave the hole system in truck to pass visual test and i dont know why but still no ck light and it sniffs clean but i do get it good and hot before smog and i run a soppy water solution threw vacuum lines to clan top end and i have a smog machine at shop and this drastically lowers nox

Don't know about the 22re but my 3.slow just got a major kick in the can after blocking it off. The difference is a slightly lower idle. I was still having a dugong problem but not after the sea foam treatment! That stuff is a godsend! I now have a smooth very low idle and that surging problem is non-existent anymore
Oh btw reffering to the code 71... It happened with mine after the egr block... I didn't use the resistor trick. I just pulled the efi fuse for about ten minutes and I'm not throwing the code 71 (or any other codes for that matter) anymore

Mine ran like crap, did the usual suspect's first, TPS, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wire's etc.. Nothing helped like the EGR delete, now only issue I have is oil leak's, and crossover pipe is cracked, so new gaskets and headers and this thing will run forever

I was plagued by a rough idle especially after coming to a stop after running on the highway. I suspected the EGR and after reading this thread and talking to a mechanic buddy I removed the little rubber hose and put on a little cap on the fitting. My runner idles smooth as silk today.
