back on topic......you say an ENGINE from an '88? or just the 5 speed and hubs? you don't have manual hubs?? must be one of "dem fancy trux wit da automatic fancy everything" LOL!

Buy the truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No, seriously, is the guy parting it out???
I don't need anything but if I had the $$$$$ I'd buy more YOTAs so my wife could just stay mad 24/7. Because, you know, my 7 yr old son is going to need his own YOTA soon!!!!

The runner is a SR5. It's an auto with the ADD for 4wd. The truck I'm trying to get is a 5spd with manual hubs. The guy was trying to sell it outright until he blew the motor. He was just going to crush it and I told him I wanted it. Now I just have to get some cash for that too...

I'm going to strip the truck and take what I need and part the rest. I'm thinking it had 4.56's in it and I know the rear is welded.

do you have to switch ECU's? I assume yes.

So if I understand you, you are looking to buy the '88 whole and pillage it? OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it a piece of crap otherwise or what? I got a chill that you have a chance at a 1st gen 4runner.

No, no, no...it's a truck not another runner. I would not do that to a 1st gen, get a grip man!!!

It's beat, he has a title for it but it's not road worthy. Smashed head light, tree damage, driver window gone.

You can make it work without switching ECU's but I'm going to swap them as well as some of the wiring so I can have the clutch switches work properly.

Just an update...

Haven't have time to mess much with this thing through the winter. Although I have started it a few times and used it to pull my parts truck up the hill when I had it stuck in the back yard this winter.

I gotta swap the alt from the parts to the 4runner so I can keep it running long enough to mess with it. Now that the weather is breaking I can try and get her running without pulling the heads!!! Don't wanna pull them if I don't have to.

I was going to mess with it this weekend but the weather is not going in my favor right now. So I guess I get to work on the house some more.

The last time I started it she sounded good...not tapping real bad. I could not keep it running on its own though. the alt is not charging due to the little incident. So I need to pull the alt out of the parts truck and get it in the runner.

After I do that I'm going to do a full SeaFoam treatment. I grabbed a gallon of that stuff the other week. I want to pull the valve covers as well to see what the tops of the heads look like. MuddinRI suggested that a while back...

Alright, I think I can let this thread rest now...I hope!!! I finally got the alts changed from the parts truck (88) to the runner. Had to change some parts in them so the plugs would work.

So I had her running today and the tapping was not nearly as bad as it was. So I dumped a bunch of seafoam in the crankcase and did a heavy booster clean out as well...Let it sit for about 3 hours and fired her back up and she smoked like to tomorrow, after all that she ran quite smooth.

So I went for a lil drive and started home (only about a mile each way) and coming up the hill she started blue smoking and losing power...Got it home and hosed off the engine and body fired it back up and it was all good. I think it was just burning some garbage out. Going to take it for a drive tonight again to see how she act, might even drive her to work this week.

So for now all seem well but!!!
