I'm afraid it isn't possible to lift the gas tank on a 2nd gen 4Runner. The coil spring suspension takes up a lot of room. Specifically the passenger rear upper control arm prevents the tank from being mounted any higher BL or no BL. You'd have to clearance the tank.

Well he shouldn't have to worry about links on a first gen runner. So here is a link to a killer 2nd gen runner on leaves all around that should give you an idea. I think he said he raised the about 3" or so.

your last sentence seems to contradict your first:

You're right, if you think it is wise to take an angle grinder to a gas tank.

I just moved mine:

It tucks up nicely, just depends on how much sawzall you are comfortable with:

You have to post up a detailed thread, really. I'd much rather do something like this than spend 500$ on the tank I'm looking at. That money can go a long way towards other mods.

No need. No detail to it. Just cut out the old xmember, weld in a new one, cut a hole, weld mounts for the tank:

Then just hook up the lines.

Ike, did you use Ford I-beams for rear trailing arms? If so, I like the junkyard engineering.

sorry for the thread jack

No. No domestic stuff in this truck. 100% toyota. Those are FJ80 radius arms. Better clearance than leaf springs and no axle wrap.

For now. I haven't gotten to any trails where the IFS was holding me back. I enjoy the need to actually have skill to drive a trail, rather than point and shoot.

Eventually, there will be an FJ80 HP front axle in there, that is currently collecting dust in my garage.

Get that thing finished and on the trail. I want to see where the added rear articulation will take you.
