Help me for the love of god!!!!

so i have a 4 cylinder 22re engine and about 8 months ago my water pump went up during the worst time, so in order to fix it i had to drive the car 7 miles without a waster pump to a heated garage to fix it basically screwing my motor. so about 8 weeks ago i started to have oil show up in the coolant. my first thought was that the timing chain had ate through the timing guide, which was correct, but, it did not eat through the timing cover it self, so i replaced the head gasket, and while i was at it i did a EGR delete, port and polished the cylinder head, made a custom kinda 2.5 inch axle dump using the original exhaust header and replaced every gasket i could get my hands on. i stripped the motor down to the block and about 29 hours ago i started it up, i had my dad help me set the timing, the car idles smooth but when you pull the throttle from what im guessing at 1500 or so rpm the engine surges and kinda hits a rev limiter. i can not for the life of me figure out what in the living hell is going on!

Well how much experience do you have porting and polishing 22re heads? That may have been a mistake. No tach?
Did you jump the diagnostic connector to set the timing?
Check afm hose for cracks and or tears.

It could be so many things

Get the cam sprocket off a tooth

distributor off or timing set with the jumper not installed

TE1 to E1 Jumped

What year early year Vacuum Advance ??

Which means pretty much the timing is not set.

I would look at timing first

Just bad luck the fuel filter is full of rust restricting volume
