hi all. i got a new xtra cab second gen and when you have it on low beam, its in hi beam. and if you switch it to hi, the lighta flicker like they swiched but its always on hi beam. also when my lights are off my brake lights work, but when i turn my lights on, i think they are on brake light all the time because they dint get brighter when i hit the brakes. anyone ever have issues like this?

You have an open ground somewhere. Use your multimeter at the taillights to check each ground (with the bulbs out).

 

Blown headlight fuse will not make headlight completely go out, but possibly cause a problem like yours.

Brakes and taillights use separate filaments.

When you hit your brakes, the brake lights (different filament in same bulb) will light.
When you say your lights are on the taillights (red in rear) will come on. If the rear red lights are not getting brighter, possible that your tail light circuit is the problem. Access driver side kick panel, check fuses, check if tail light relay clicks.

Don't just look at fuse, measure resistance.

haha, the OP is like my brother, i was actually following him when we went wheeling and noticed this.

 

UPDATE: when i push the brakes with no lights on just one filament lights up, when i turn on my taillights both filaments are on all the time. some help would be greatly appreciated i suck at wiring!

Your brake and tail lights are working as they're supposed to.

Your headlights take power form different circuit. Did you read my comments ^^^ regarding fuses? What have you checked so far?

 

i am talking about my pickup. and my taillights are not functioning as they are suposed to. when my headlights lights are on, both taillight filaments are lit, so when i step the brake, they cant get any brighter. and when my lights are off and i step the brake only one filament lights. and ive checked all fuses in the kick pannel, all of the ones under the hood. and checked my tailight bulbs.

 

hmmm maybe the guy that wired the trailer plug got the tail light and brake light wire switched? sound plausable? ill try switching them tomorrow

 

well idk where the issue was but i switched the tail light and brake light wire back the frame a little bit and it works right now. still have a headlight issue
