Header install and exhaust welding costs...

So I've got all the parts I need to re-vamp my exhaust system...

LCE header, Magnaflow high flow Cat, Magnaflow muffler, Magnaflow tip. The muffler shop just quoted me $700 to install and weld everything up! WTF, should'nt cost that much right??!!

I'm gonna take it to another shop and get another estimate.

do you have a 22re? why not do it yourself? its ridiculously easily. atleast install the header, and drive it over to the exhaust shop and have them do the rest. thats what is bumping your price. a mechanic will charge 500 a side for manifold/header replacements.

yup, 22RE. It's just that I didn't have anytime to mess with it so I decided to just take it to a shop to do everything. I may now re-consider that decision.

I'll probably install the headers myself then take it to another shop and have them weld up the rest.

...and actually, the shop initially told me that it would cost $850 because they needed to get a new tailpipe ordered. i told them just to cutoff the old one and use that since it's in great shape....so they dropped the price to $700.

Picking my truck up this afternoon before they do anything on it.

For $700.... buy welder and a 4in grinder, chop saw

then when you have some time weld it up

sit back with a beer, new welder, chop saw, 4in grinder and new exhuast

seriously man, i hate doing exhaust welding, (i dont have a pit) and wouldnt charge more than $150 over material, and exhuast tubing isnt expensive. maybe they're trying to pay for a new bender or something lol.

like outsane: wire feeder with gas-port, chop-saw, material, done. cake and pie, cake and pie

I would install the header myself, I bet that's where the majority of the labor is coming from and on a 22re it's actually really easy. It was probably one of the 1st things I had ever done to a vehicle in my quasi career as a wannabe shade tree mechanic. I think it took me like 3 hours or so (with beer time included) to get it in and half ass attached to my age old exhaust. Then I bought a jardine cat back and high flow cat from NWOR. I put it in myself with exhaust clamps which worked ok but there were slight leaks all over. Once I had it all positioned exactly how I wanted it I pulled the exhaust out and took it to a shop to have them weld all the seams. This was a while ago but I think they charged me like 100 bucks to weld it all up right on top of their work table. When all was said and done I ended up with a sweet system. I did a full tune up and a K&N FIPK at the same time I did all this stuff and my 22re did seem a bit "peppier" although it still wasn't a speed demon. It was definitely loud as all get out and had that ricer fart sound to it lol.

Man a 22re you should be able to do the header in 30 mins and if you already have a header then you can just bolt the existing exhaust to it and if there's holes get them welded should cost less then $100

Red face

You don`t say where you live?

That could impact the price.

I am curious why you want to weld up the exhaust?

Other then a flange to bolt to the header unless you want flanges welded to your cat it should all be slip fit and use clamps

A welded exhaust is good if you have all the tools to remove and replace parts that go bad .:jessica:
