glovebox lamp

im not sure how I went this long without noticing that my current 87 runner doesn't have a glove box lamp. im almost positive my 88 dlx had one. there are two unused plugs behind the glove box. anyone know if it is as easy as finding the lamp and the little switch and pluging them in?

I’ll grab some pics in a bit. They’re just hanging behind the little drop cloth at the back of the box. I couldn’t find that the parts were still available from Toyota but I see a few on eBay.

I don't know.
Anyway I saw a guy who sells set of leds for old Toyotas, trucks and 4Runner, and the set for the SR5 includes the box glove led, the DLX set doesn't.

He is located in USA by the way.

I can dismount one of my 4R's dashboard tomorrow afternoon and take some pics if you need them.

Anyway, you need the right led to fit the glove box light bulb hole. That hole is small and the smallest led I found can't go through it. The original light bulb performs better.

I can take pics of both glove boxes in the dark tonight.

it's still generic, in that not all sr5 4runners have the same equipment, ie, neither of my '87s have door courtesy lights. there are sr5s that do not have the inclinometer, but mine do. all three of mine do have the map lights too. so, some sr5s have a glovebox light, but none of my three do.

I was wrong:
You can see the problem with the led, the original light bulb emits(?) light in every direction, and it's needed down.
The led emits light to the front only, almost nothing goes down, that is the reason the original light bulb performs better than the led in that location.
Anyway I had to make the led smaller to fit it in that hole.

As far as I know, the glove box light was still optional on the SR5 trim level. Actually, there wasn't much that was standard on the SR5 trim level. Many of the "SR5" options still were optional and were not an automatic upgrade when you got the SR5 package.

these are the unused plugs I see behind my glove box. I was wondering, my truck does not have A/C, would they have anything to do with that? I’m going to poke around some 2nd gen drawings tonight maybe the little light fixture is similar

Everything somedayj has posted is present on my 87 sr5, and I can confirm the led replacements not directing light correctly. I Think I remember keyapp stating he doesn’t use leds, but I’ve found leds to be a definite improvement to the electrical system function and light output in every location except the glovebox light.
