gear oil
i replaced my clutch in my 88 yota today and changed the gear lube also, i put 80w90 in it just to get it out of the shop... now it takes tremendous force to down shift, would that be because of the gear oil or did i screw somethin up? i no it takes 75w90 but all i had with me is 80w90... i did research on this but nothing gave me a clear answer

Trannies can be quite picky about what oil they use. Sounds like you used an oil which is too slippery for use in a manual transmission and the syncros aren't working properly. I suggest you go with Redline MT90. Its about $40 in oil to fill the tranny, but it works beautifully, don't know about any other types of fluid.

Make sure you are using GL-4 in your tranny, GL-5 can damage the Syncros. I use AMSOIL Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90 API GL-4 (MTG), and it has made a huge improvement in shifting smoothness.

AND...it'll probably last 2x as long as non-synth gear oil. OK in transfer also, but do not use in differentials...GL-5 for the diffs.
