engine wont run

I have a 91 yota pickup with a 22re 5spd 4x4. I just rebiult the engine and the motor dosent want to run. If I put it on TDC and turn it over a coulpe of time the rotor ends up on #3 when TDC But it should be on #1 cylinder. Any body have any comments about this?

timming is off. you need to double and tripple check the timming belt (cam to cam to crank relations) and the distrubutor postion

there are quite a few posts floating around for all of the above problems.

You have to go around 2 times to get back to #1 on the distributor. Distributor turns at half the speed of the crank.

Both people above are right. The distributor doesn't return to #1 based on a single crank revolution.

Also make sure you don't forget the ground wire on the back of the motor to the firewall.

Mine broke off with the body lift... tho im running the carb, not EFI..

what significance does this ground have? Comparing it to the ground at the base of the engine nearese the battery.

I don't really know why but mine wouldn't start without it. It would just crank. Someone told me to check it. I ended up making a new beefier one and everything was fine.

22re wont start

Just put your #1 plug wire in the cap where your rotor is pointing on the cap.

I bought mine with a body lift and no ground strap. I believe it helps avoid corrosion of the head. DC power and acidic liquids (which the coolant can become with time) combine to corrode metal very fast (learned that on MythBusters lol). I think the ground strap combats that. With that being said, should I make myself a ground strap? Anybody have pics where it connects on the head and firewall?
