Ok heres the situation the front door is closed and won't come open. This has been a problem since i bought the truck. Usually a little jiggling of the handle and i can't pull it up and hte door will open....well not this time now i have to enter in the passenger side since all other 3 doors open. since the door is closed i can't get the door panel off to look at what is going on. How on earth can i get my door open. The lock feels like it is hanging up on something. Ive tried lubricating it and that does nothing. I need some help any advice please would be very appreciated...and i have power locks if that helps

Uh oh, maybe an auto or body shop can give you a better answer. I am not sure what you can do that won't damage the door. I had the trunk get stuck on my '81 Old's like that. I had to pry the cylinder out like a thief does and reform the lock opening later.

Does the relay click? Does the lock move up/down?

Mine does the same thing kind of(not as bad)... Pretty soon i am going to pull the panel off...

Mine does this. I unlock it with my remote and all of the doors unlock except the driver door. It isn't a bad actuator, because if i open another door and try to unlock it manually it is 100% stuck and won't come up.

What i can do though is just try and open the driver door and it does something that makes it "un-hang" (don't know any better word) from the door lock. Then i can press the unlock button on my remote again and it unlocks.

I Finally noticed the other day that it does this, but if i look really hard at the exterior door handle it is out about .5-1.0mm than the rest of the door handles.

My guess is it might need to be greased so it doesn't hang up.....

Try doing that to get yours open.
I do realize you have a 2nd gen and i have a 3rd gen, but my guess is the door mechanism is very similar.

yeah i did the same exact thing you jiggle the handle till it unhangs then hit your keyless entry and the the knob comes up and the door opens that usually works but its not this time thats the problem and rdharper the knob moves up and down but not very far it gets "hung up" on something tryin to come up.

well since i noticed mine is sticking out a little too far then i would push it in.

So instead of just dropping the door handle from the outside, i would push it in all the way after pulling it out, see if that helps.

As of now you still havn't gotten the door open right?

yeah still won't come open but ifi put the key in and turn it hangs up then releases and the knob comes up like its unlocked but the door still won't come open man this is weird

I guess the only other thoughts might be obvious, but short of taking it in to a dealer or locksmith:

Next time you get it open, fix it before you close it again.

Try rolling down the window and work from both sides looking for a combination to free it one more time.

And lastly, any chance the frame is exerting a bind of some kind. If so you might try unloading it with a judiciously placed jack... carefully of course.

My rear passenger door did this to me a few weeks ago. To get it open, a friend was outside the truck rapidly and repeatedly pulling up and releasing the handle while I was simultaneously rapidly and repeatedly pulling up and pushing down on the lock knob. It opened after approx 10-15 seconds of this, and has worked perfectly since... strange.

i did it fella's....i took apart the door panel (what i could with the door closed at least) and jiggled both the outside and inside door panel along with the knob to see what was moving and what wasn't moving and what should possibly be working. Anyway i saw that a lever wasn't moving up so i took a screw driver and tried to release this lever up and it clicked up along with the knob and i pulled the handle and pushed the door open. it works better then before (knock on wood). Just though i would tell ya guys that a shop said they hadn't had the slightest idea of how to do this but me (an 18 yr old kid) figured it out. Anyway if anyone has this problem i can sure tell ya exactly what to fix haha.

okay my 91 4runner does the same thing but on the passenger side the whole door opening mechanism is not very good but this is what i do to get the door open
put the window down or have someone inside the car to jiggle the lock up and down while you are outside the car jiggleing the handle and this should open the door!
its the cobination of jiggling the lock and the outside handle that opens it
