1990 T4r 4x4 with auto trans
The original holder that is currently in the 4 runner use to have an S-shaped metal retainer securing the lower portion of the holder to the top. Over time the retainer occasionally fell out and eventually lost so I fabricated a replacement which did not last over time. I decided bout time to replace the holder but I have searched and have not been able to find a 'how to' thread, or article for my 1990 application and would appreciate comments or suggestions.
Sorry, my description was not clear, I only need the cup holder and after fiddling with it using a mini screw driver I noticed, with the tray pulled out, on the underside of the holder there is an elongated slot and by prying oh so slightly was able to remove the holder, once out I found on each side of the holder there is a 'dog eared' retainer that secures it to the track. Checked for a replacement and found a couple on Ebay ranging from $50 to $30 that looked similar but not clear from seller's photo? Possibly another option would be to fabricating a metal Z type retainer out of the desired diameter rod, or go my basic quick-fix back yard mechanic route by cutting a chain approx. 2 1/2", thread thru the center of the holder with a clip at each end, intend refining the end clips, it works??, if asked I will deny I came up with the idea.
Discombobulated, I thank you for responding to my question!!.

I think I have the retainer at home, left for a few but I can check when I get home but are you just needing the two retainers?
I can be mistaken but seem to recall there was only 1 retainer if U do come across one and able to post a pic I should be able to fabricate a replacement?
I have two, were you just needing one or both? Either way PM me your address and I’ll throw them in an envelope and mail them, my lady mails at her work for free so no charge
