Has anyone had any luck removing the crank pulley without the SST? I got the bolt loose, just need to get the pulley off.

 

Go to search at top of page and type in (Remove Crank Pulley 22re)

 

I'm not finding anything on removing the pulley, just a million posts on the bolt. That was easy.

 

Weird, the pulley just kind of "fell off" when I broke the crank bolt loose on my 22re....

 

Mine is on there solid. I tried gently prying on it with no movement. Tapped it with a rubber mallet a few times and nothing. I'm hoping I dont have to buy a tool to get it loose

 

They should just slide off. No puller is needed. If really on there tight, spary some PB Blaster on the crank snout and let it soak it.

Make sure the key way is not bent up and is preventing it from letting it come out.

 

Mine was pretty dang tight but I gave it a few whacks around it's perimeter front and back and it came right off. Rubber or wooden mallet would be ideal. The real trick is to keep at it from every angle as it will "rock" off after awhile.

 

The key is a woodruff key, meaning it's flat against the pulley and arc-shaped against the shaft. If the key starts to move with the pulley, it will slide up the arc cut in the shaft and jam the pulley.

You can see the end of the key; VERY gently tap it in. If it moves, that might be your problem. If it doesn't move with very gentle tapping, leave it alone.

 

Loaned a crank pulley from the neighbor, came right off with that. Key is straight and attached.

 

Both my Timing chain guides were broken. The grooves in the TC cover were deep.
