I think it depends how bad the flywheel and pressure plate is. But IMO if your changing your clutch go ahead and replace all of it and get your flywheel resurfaced. I don't even know where you can just buy the disc itself.
Why are you changing your clutch? Is it worn out or are you upgrading?

When I was doing my engine swap I went to a local drivetrain shop and bought a clutch kit and they resurfaced my flywheel. The kit came with a pilot bearing, throw out bearing, pressure plate, clutch disc, and alignment tool all for I think $180 and that was for a V6.

Almost every one I know that has tried to be frugal has complained about having to pull every thing again in a few weeks to a few months.
To answer your question is it bad.
No not really bad just a stupid idea.
This is why you seldom can buy anything but the whole kit!!!
If the Trans comes out it gets a new Clutch Kit

Yes do it all. Marlin puts together a great kit.
Replace the bushings on the shifter and transfer lever [Marlin also].
Consider doing the Rear Main Seal also if you pull the transmission.
Get hold of a transmission jack if possible, makes the job much easier removal and install.

i was thinking about just doing the disk because in a few mouths im doing a new tranny and at the time i do the new tranny i want to put a MC clutch in, my bearings are bad in my tranny right now but i dont have the cash to buy a new tranny yet, but i think i might just do the whole kit now because i dont want something happening in a few weeks

pretty hard to buy just the disk. every clutch i've ever bought has been the disk the pressure plate release bearing and pilot bearing, oh and alignment tool. i just did the clutch in my truck. was 155 bucks including a brand new flywheel. If u change just the disk, the old pressure plate and flywheel will chew through the new disk and wear it down faster than a nice smooth resurfaced flywheel would.

If the bearings in the trans are bad !!!
A clutch disc is not going to make it shift better
perhaps a used trans to get you through to you can afford to do it the right way.
You might have said your trans was shot because it is one of those fix it now or spend much more later..
No real answer in that case.

If you've got money to burn go ahead and it might last a few hundred miles or longer if your lucky.
And getting an attitude when people are voicing there opinion (which you asked for) isn't very smart.

Go to Pirate4x4 and ask the same question
If Andy used the horus he'd spend pulling and replacing his tranny/clutch TWICE, he could work some overtime and have enough money to replace the tranny and clutch kit next week. #justsayin
OK, I'm outta here - that's the meanest thing I've ever said on YT
