CEL CODE 24 and 31

ok i was checking the timing on my 3vz-E and when i hooked up the jumper for e1 and te1 i got a Check engine light code 24 and 31 is that supose to happen or is there something wrong? and i set my timing at about 12 to 13 btdc and runs alot better than 10btdc but i allso turned as far as btdc as it would go and noticed that the truck ran amazing at idle. but wasent sure if you can advance it that much or not and it run allright?

code 24-open or short in intake air temperature circuit.
code 31-with engine at idle, open or short in VAFM circuit lasting 0.5 seconds or longer.

make sure the wires in the VAFM connector are fully inserted in the connector and are clean and dry, and that the connector is firmly seated and locked to the VAFM.

Is the CEL on when the truck is running?
Did you clear the codes by pulling the EFI fuse or battery for a minute or so and see if it comes back?

It's possible the codes were stored and left over from some other incident and are not relevant now.

I know this is an old thread but I'm getting the same codess. I was looking at my plug for the afm and it looks like it's missing one of the connectors, I can't imagine that's normal, but just want to check. I had unplugged it a few times the past couple days when I replaced my steering box.

Which pin? The connector side or the VAF side?

There is a difference in pinouts shown in the manual for the 3VZE vs. the 22re

Whether this is a real difference, a model year difference, or just a typo is not known to me.

One thing for sure: your two codes are almost certainly caused by your unplugging the connector. You may need to trace out the wiring to assure you didn't break a wire in the bundle.
