Can you identify this leak?

The pic is looking forwards at my transfer case. 87 4Runner with a w56 transmission. I haven’t found the right schematic to identify that seal, nor do I know if it’s indicative of a bigger issue.

It’s leaking in front of where the driveshaft mounts and that coupling meets the transfer case. You can see the drip and where it’s coming from. Can someone tell me what this part/seal is? Any info is much appreciated, haven’t dealt with transmission work before.
thanks!

Transfer case leak

Is there anything else I should consider when replacing that?

You might assess the slop in the bearing behind the output flange. If that bearing is sloppy, or rough, it can be changed by removing the first cover behind the output flange.

Thanks scope! Always got confused on those parts pages, selecting "wagon" when going through the vehicle selection. The first one is for a 93, I'm sure it will be similar?

I'll have to look for Grego's writeup

If you have any doubt about the parts you need, your local dealer has experts (well, at least as expert as you'll reasonably find). But they're looking at the same pictures you are. So make their job MUCH easier: print the page that you think shows the part you need. Write your VIN number right on the page. Ask the parts woman if that's the right part number for that VIN.

While you're there, just ask if having the VIN makes a difference to them. You'll probably hear a lot of stories of people who ask for a part, but don't even know what year their vehicle is!

If you make their job easier, I've found you'll often get a better price. Because if they think you know what you're doing, you'll be less likely to return to complain that you got the wrong part.
