brake proportioner?
Well, after 32 yrs the rear brake proportioner is shot...…….never heard of one till now!
I have an '87 with 22R, 4x4, xtra cab.
Is there a single part or multiple choices (parts) used during that year make?
Is Amazon the best place to get one?
I saw several there, thus my concern there wasn't just 1 style used for that year.

I have the same truck but std cab. My proportioner went out several years ago and after researching the hell out of it I decided to buy a stock replacement unit from Ford. Not cheap, but I figured it lasted 30 years so wtf. If you Google it you will find tons of info about using different proportioners, bypassing the proportioner, you name it. Lots of great ideas to make it a little cheaper but required more than just bolting on a new (expensive) proportioner. I put my VIN number into a Ford Dealer website to get the correct replacement number.

What do you do with this truck? Are you hauling heavy loads frequently? If you are then I could see the use for buying another proportioning valve. But if you're not hauling loads you'd be just fine installing a manual proportioning valve at the MC like I did. My truck isn't a work truck. So once you set the manual PV for the rear you won't need to change it until you haul something. If it's not a heavy load you might not need to change it at all. I hauled my bike, ramp, and all my track day gear (500-600 lbs) on mine several times and it drives great. So it really boils down to if you want it original for heavy loads or just a manual for the occasional load. I bought the manual PV at Summit Racing.

This is what I removed BUT what I find online doesn't hardly look like that!
I just want to get the truck on the rd again so I can sell it to my neighbor.

That's just a T fitting I think, the only proportioning valve is the LSPV or Load Sensing Proportioning Valve, which is above the rear axle. It does exactly what it sounds like, senses your rear load and proportions your braking power accordingly.

That part is just a Tee. Here's the manual page for the LPS&BV . I don't think you'd mistake that for the Tee.
You really ought to include your neighbor in whatever decision you make about fixing this, particularly if you do the repair yourself. If you "fix" the brakes and they fail, neighborhood parties could be a little awkward.

I just bought a new one from Mama Toyota: LSPV for 4Runner rear brake circuit, #47910-26040 -- $288.91 out the door.
My symptom was the pedal felt like it had a detent in it as I'd press down on it. Problem fixed with new valve.
