Totally dug your posts and read it start-to-finish. Did this a couple years ago on my 2WD. Didn't do as much cosmetic detailing but OCD'd on CLEANING and got the engine compartment back to new condition on an 88 while re-doing practically EVERYTHING under the hood. And all to have a reliable rig! It feels good and I was also an amateur mechanic. I mean, I was ASI certified in 1990-Advanced Security Institute! LOL!

And I can totally relate to having to drop the steering components just to change an oil pan.

Could be the cover, oil pump, or pan...

Clean it all off really well and find out for certain where it's coming from.

Just might have to pull the pan and reseal it.

GREAT THREAD!
I am almost done with a complete engine rebuild and I am painting a few things...timing cover, water pump etc. I am wonder how the BBQ paint on the manifold held up??? My header looks like hell and I thought I might paint it.

thanks man....that means alot coming from you.

BBQ paint was only used on exhaust manifold......after a few minutes of it smoking (the can warns you, but i only read that AFTER it was smoking) and a few weeks of a stank, it went to black....a pretty good looking, clean black and has stayed that way.

Is there a gasket that's suppose to fit here with the cooling pipe? I havea gasket that I haven't used yet and dunno where it's suppose to go. Not only that but I didn't see a gasket come off when I pulled my lower intake off.

Yes there should be a gasket. I imagine that without one it would leak like pig.

Second thought on that RTV because that pipe is hard to put back in place. It's unaligned so the bolts that need to go in wont go in straight and I don't have the fuel rail off or vice grips that will fit...

yep....that's the problem with that connection and the problem i exactly had. the vice grips were the only way i could get that aligned ......i would recommend getting some versus cross-threading.

Keep everything loose then put the pipe in, it'll go. I found an O-Ring at the local auto parts store. I don't have a size for ya thought...
