Try this forum for good info. The mods are great about answering:

The company (AMA) makes custom hoses and does installs. Since AC is their specialty, I have used them instead of dealership (big bucks!) and general shops like PEPBoys. I see you are in Calif so maybe there are similar shops near you. Check around--$500 sounds steep unless you need other AC work.

no my 95 already had the r134.. i guess i need this hose from the compressor to the evaporator? thats what the dude said...
this is bull.. if i take it to the toyota dealer, i have to pay another 85 dollars for "their diagnostic" WHEN I JUST DID IT AT PEP BOYS!!!
the hose i think i need they say costs 120 bucks!
that coupled with 140 for r134 should be like 300, but with labor its going to be more like 4-500....
i hate my life...
i have no money. :[

what is wrong with the hose? i had the metal tubing on mine split and paid a guy $20 to weld it up, been fine ever since. are you going to put it on yourself, or have them do it.

there are enough brains on here we should be able to get you thru it. save ya some cash. you should have a hose repair place there in your town. they might be able to repair your hose.

The Pep Guy dude is full of #$^$%^.
The hose is going to cost around $100 +/-. You can send the old hose to an a/c shop that makes hoses and probably get it refurbished for less. I don't know the cost, but that's what I'm going to do with mine.
Changing the hose is easy, but you'll want to replace the o-rings that seal the joints. Get some stuff called Nylog-blue to insure the o-rings seal properly.
Recharging the system should also cost around $100. R134A is cheap.

if its an AC hose theres more than replacing the hose. after everything is reinstalled you have to pull a vaccuum on the system for an hour or two to ensure there is no moisture or air in the system, then recharge with refrigerant. it is expensive, whenever an AC dies in my vehicles i just live with it, it only gets to be 110 for about a week a year where i live so it snot too bad.
but the original AC in my '79 still works!

msg me i got a set of hoses from a tacoma 134 system that might work for you. the tacoma 3.4 engine uses the same ac pump as the 3.0 134 system. ill try and dig them out this weekend. if i find them just pay me shipping on them.

Replacing the rubber tubing on the hose requires a crimper. The hose is a special type called "barrier hose" which is made specifically for a/c systems.

If its the "Hose" I did its an aluminum one and its expensive.
Instead of replacing it a 2nd time we took it off and found a guy that could weld aluminum, he put a big fat bead on there and we recharged it with the $50 retrofit AC kit.
Ice Cold.

You Could Have a Hose Made
Check around for a hydraulic and A/C hose maker, probabally in the SF Valley, take them the old hose for reuse of the ends, or to be sure that the new ends are the same, and have them make you a new hose. This should cost around $100.
