I have a 95 SR5 4Runner in which all of the cluster backlights went out. Thinking that maybe the bulbs finally went out I ordered LED's to replace them with. Ordered everything off of SuperBrightLEDs.com. After installing the LED's turn the lights on and only one light comes on.
I switched all of the bulbs that did not turn ons polarity around to make sure that was correct. But that did not work. Now I have no clue what to think as it can't be a blown fuse do to one LED working. I have also switched the other LEDs to the working spot and all light up.

Also it appears that the speedo cable flung oil all over the inside of the cluster. Could that be a possible cause of this??

Sorry for the novel as I am trying to get all of the info out there the first time.

well, I can tell you that LED's must be put in a certain way to work; you cannot reverse the polarity on them and expect them to work like a standard filament bulb will

easiest way to reverse the polarity is to just twist out and remove the housing that holds the individual bulb, turn it 180 degree, and then put it back in the cluster, and that'll reverse the polarity, making a bulb that was installed backwards, now face the right way

I just tried that Superbleeder still a no go on the lights. I even went and picked up a new set of 194 filament bulbs and they do not want ot light up. Do you think the circuitry might have been fried due to the oil in there? Thanks for the help too.

ummmm, I don't think that oil would have caused that; all of the circutry is on the backside of the cluster, outside of it, and that oil usaullly stay pretty well inside the housing. My old standard gauge showed the same thing after 29xk miles


that is kinda strange though... I thought that all of the back-lighting bulbs were on the same circut, so one would thinkg that if one went out, they would ALL go out, not all but one go out


Do any of the other interior lights that normally come on with the lights not function? could be the dimmer switch

Every other light that is supposed to turn on with the headlights turns on. I had bought a replacement dimmer switch since my son had overcranked the original about a year ago. I put the new one in and still nothing. But it does not dim the lights either so maybe I got another bad dimmer switch. Thanks for all the help.

IF... ONE DASH LIGHT WORKS correctly with the DIMMER

the oil HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR PROBLEM.

You probably tore the thin film circuit board on the back of the cluster, or have one of the plugs bent out with no contact where they go in across the top back of the cluster.
