95 4runner fuel leak #2

Ok already described the fuel leak problem in #1 where I mentioned the cel. Any suggested remedies to #1 read the code & # 2 clear the code. I live in Cleveland where the EPA is not nice when it comes to vehicles with cel on. The parts stores dont seem to have the ob1 reader anymore to read or clear codes. Will the old paper clip trick work or disconnecting the EFI fuse and turning the ignition on for a few minutes work?

No trick light or reader/scanner needed. Toyota rocks! Well, old ones do.

Pulling the efi fuse or disconnecting the battery will clear codes and cel. Depending on why it is coming on, you may not be able to get a test completed before the ecu detects the problem again. What codes did you get when you did the diagnostic?

I didn't see your first post, if the gas cap is all the problem was you should be fine. After you reset the ecu it may run a little rough as it remaps fuel and ignition curves.

The gas cap is not the problem. [See the comments in your other post.] You're not going to be able to clear the CEL until you fix ... what it is telling you to fix! Which means you have to spend 60 seconds and read the code.

So the O'reilly "tech" says your EGR is related to your fuel system how? Or do I not unnerstan. And confirm that code by pulling them yourself, to make sure. I don't really have any love for "OBD I readers ".

No the cel/ code 71 is egr related. The fuel issue separate.
1. I think z31freakify on my other thread is right. I need to swap the lines as I am getting gas tank pressure build up, hence having to leave the cap loose which is only a half ass temp fix.
2. I think I may have inadvertently created some confusion about my runners issues by mentioning both issues together ( fuel spilling & cel/egr ).This thread really only needs to address my egr issues for less confusion. Sorry my bad

3. However I do find it interesting that the cel popped a egr code when my fuel tank became over pressurized due to the fuel sending lines being backwards. It just seems too coincidental for them to happen at the same time???
4. So... is there any way the two systems ( fuel & egr ) malfunctions could be related by some crossover interaction?
