I have a 95' 4runner with the 3.0.

It was idling one day and just quit, wouldn't restart.
I saw the fuel damper was leaking so I went in and replaced that as well as the injectors sense I was in there.
I have fuel, I confirmed that by pulling the line off the fuel pressure regulator.
I also have a new FPR. Just happened to replace it same time.
I have spark.

I have tried jumping the fuel pump and starting it, didn't make a difference.
I also replaced the fuel filter.

Any ideas? I'm about ready to take it to a mechanic.

 

Compression test would be next.

 

I'll give that a shot. Just weird for it to be running good then die.

 

If you have fuel (assuming the injectors are actually working), spark, and air, the other thing you need is compression.

 

You can check for injector signals with a multimeter or a noid light, I think I saw a post here on making a home made noid light.

 

Pull a few plugs: are they dry? If dry, you have no fuel. If the connectors are on the new injectors snuggly, I'd go with the noid light to verify you didn't break a wire somewhere.

If wet, no spark (at least at the right time). Check ignition timing (if you got a plug wire on in the wrong order that'll do it too).

This Radio Shack LED http://www.radioshack.com/radioshack...l#.VMEpsv7F_nc has an integral resistor so you can use it as a cheap noid light. Remember that they are polarized; if it doesn't flash, switch the leads.

And while you're pulling the plugs, yes, check compression. It can't hurt, and always good to know.

 

Trying to work, and work on my car same time.. Not easy. Plugs are really rusted in there. Checked compression on only one cylinder so far. 120 PSI. Plugs look pretty rough as well.

Mine did the same thing, it turned out to be broke wire in the wiring harness the runs along the driver side of the motor by the valve cover. Try moving the harness around some and try to crank it

 

With dying while running I would look at the electrical connection at the air box to ensure its tight. I have seen them come loose if not connected properly and engine will die if it has no air readings. Check vacuum hoses... there are many of them and if leaking especially on the passenger side it wont run.

 

Good compression on all cylinders and even.

 

LOL, mouse got stuck in timing belt... Got a sick first gen, going to part this one out.
