94 toyota 22re running problems!!!

I have a 94 Toyota pick up 22re 4x4 5 speed. the truck will sit and idle fine but when you give it gas it wants to bog down and dies wont go past 1/4 throttle and it is hard to start. I replaced plugs wire and fuel filter afm and checked all the vaccum lines. can any one give me any ideas what to check/change?? I have a fuel pump on the way too

Have you checked the ignition timing? Takes a $20 tool (that you should have anyway), but it sounds like you've spent way more than that on "guess and by golly."

(PS: it doesn't sound like a fuel pump.)

Check that the flapper door on the AFM moves freely. Use a vacuum gauge (another handy tool to have) to see if it has a clogged exhaust. Check the TPS. Check for codes. Check to see if the EGR is opening too far too soon.

How do you check the timing. And I've changed the afm twice and once off a running truck

Start with a compression test. The reason I say this is the way it cranks over when you start it, I can hear the starter going fast/slow/fast/etc which is possibly a cylinder low on compression. If you have low compression in one or more cylinders you'll need to fix that problem first. Buy or borrow a cylinder compression tester, report back what each cylinder has for compression.

What?!! "Check the timing" is about as basic as "roll the windows down." You use a timing light http://www.harborfreight.com/xenon-t...ight-3343.html, hook it up, (following, as always, the manual http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b.../5distribu.pdf) point it at the harmonic balancer, and read off the number. (Don't forget the jumper in the diagnostic connector.) The correct base timing number is on a sticker under the hood.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and we don't all learn in the same pattern, but if you're replacing the VAF without knowing how to check timing, you may be getting ahead of yourself.

You shouldn't have to pump the throttle on the first start, it's fuel injected.
