leak around slave cylinder boot?

about a month ago my clutch went out. the slave and master were both leaking and bad, so i replaced the slave and master with brand new ones. everything has been fine since until today. went out side to see a little leak under the truck.

when i climbed under the car i noticed it was wet around the slave cylinder, but not exactly the slave, its slowly leaking around the black boot, so if you know what i mean it can not be the clutch fluid. is it tranny fluid leaking around the boot? is it just clutch fluid inside and around the boot from when it was leaking but finally finding its way to the ground?

any ideas? or anyone who has had this happen?

I think you are talking about the throw out bearing fork that the slave cyl actuates. If there is something coming out of there it could be left over from your previous problem, or it could be from the tranny gear oil, or possibly the rear main on the engine. I think if it is the rear main it would leak around the plate between the motor and bell housing. If it is gear oil from the tranny it would be alot thicker than motor oil or brake fluid. Best thing to do is try to clean it or get as much out of that boot as you can and then see if it continues. If you continue to see a leak, check the fluid levels in the engine, tranny, and clutch master and see which one is going down.

it has not leaked since my last post, until today. went to get in leaving work and notices a little puddle. when i got home i climbed under neath and saw that all around the boot is wet with fluid running down and dripping. it is not oil! is there a seal inside that boot area?

if it's the shift fork boot that's wet, you likely have an OIL leak.

if it's the clutch slave boot on the pushrod that's wet, you likely have a leaking clutch slave.

you can tell what kind of fluid it is by smelling it and rubbing it between your fingers.

what brand clutch master and slave did you install?

Talking

Of all the three fluids it could be .They all smell very different .

Has the fluid level dropped in the Clutch Master Cylinder if not you should be able to rule that out

its the slave boot that is wet. i can pull it out and the whole thing is just wet with whatever kind of fluid it is. someone said there is a scrapper seal in there? not to sure about that. i could swear the fluid smelt kinda bad like gear oil.

Then your slave is leaking

Put another one in, specify 'new' and not rebuilt, and stick with parts that are made in japan if you can.

clutch fork boot? then yeah, trans oil = trans leak. gear oil is stinky like rotten eggs from the sulphur in it.

Are you meaning the boot on the side of the bellhousing, or the boot on the clutch slave cylinder?

If it's the boot on the release arm to bellhousing, it's most likely engine oil leaking past the main seal or transmission / gear oil leaking from the trans... but could be fluid from the slave (more in a minute). The former is most likely since the engine sits slightly higher than the transmission when on level ground, but if you drive or park facing downhill, the transmission input shaft seal could be letting that oil leak down. Unfortunately, if either is leaking and slinging enough out to get in to the release arm boot, the clutch friction disc probably has some on it too.
If it's the boot on the slave cylinder, it's most likely the slave leaking. If you park on a sloped driveway (to the left or right) the clutch could be leaking and the fluid running down to the boot on the bellhousing... but then the clutch pushrod boot would be wet too.

Did you install a new slave, or remanufactured?
