Hey 92, ...thanks for allowing a highjack! lol.

Ok, so I've asked a couple people, but now I'm getting conflicting info from several people. 92 told me to come here and ask, ....so here I am, if anyone would like to put in their 2 cents? ........

So, here's the deal;

*** Complete rebuild done, LCE header installed(CA Model, 4-1) ***

My issue is that the pipe from collector to CAT(with o2 inlet) that LCE supplied is 2.25". The only CAT I can seem to find online or at parts stores is 2'', which I bought for 180$ from Kragen(I can return it if you guys suggest so). It's direct fit, but I can get a weld-on one for 150$ from Kragen as well. Both are Magnaflow.

So, am I ok going with the 2'' CAT that I have?.....Or does it negate the 2.25 Pipe and therefore need a 2.25" CAT, and then at least 2.25 From CAT to tail?

Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to Supreme Muffler here, down the street, in a couple days, and if I need the 2.25" Cat from LCE(the only place I can seem to find that O.D. diameter CAT), then I'd need to order it now, so I can have it in a couple days for the Exhaust shop to install properly.

Well chef, I wish I had an answer for you, best I could say is get LCE on the phone & see what they think. I would assume that if the collector is 2-1/4' then your cat should be too. If the cat you already have is a direct fit & so is the header then they should work together but might be more restrictive. Do they bolt up?

Hey Lumpy,

Thanks for the response. Yeah, neither of those will work. The first one would, but it is not available for California(I don't think they can ship to CA., under the new laws, right? I'm not sure if it would pass with any of those other State CAT's.)
The other one, the "NON-CAT", will definitely keep me from passing smog, haha. Actually, I just passed, May 1st, but if I had that welded on, I'd have to have it removed every year, replace it with a functional CA. Catalytic, then remove that and replace it again with the Non-CAT. I think CA. emissions laws are STUPID, and in fact, I think they cause more damage to engines, thus causing more smog for up to 11 months until you return again for the next check, than if they'd just follow the 49 other states emissions standards and mandates! Oh well, Das ish the People's Republic of Collifownia!

Have you just tried calling Advanced Auto or NAPA and see what they have??? I know Advanced should have a 2.25 CAT may not be for a runner but I'm sure they'll have something.

Hey Lumpy,

Well, I haven't checked Advanced, but I got one at Kragen like I said for 180$ But it's 2", and my main question to you more advanced Toyota-techs is "Will the 2.25 Pipe-Collector to CAT, not work well with this 2" CAT?" LCE could have sold me their 2.25" CAT, but he told me "Nah, you'll be fine with a 2" CAT"....but quite a few people have told me "not so". It's a mixed message thing, lol. I just don't want to restrict it. Is it best to keep the CAT the same Diameter pipe as the Pipe?

I'll surf Advanced.com to see what they say. Don't think they have any around here, I'd have to ship.

Well...I'd stick with the 2.25 but the .25 loss probably won't kill ya.

92 where are you???

Nope, Advance Auto Parts doesn't have one for mine.......

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...51_10051_-1___

The only one I can find is LCE's 2.25" magnaflow CAT, ....and I don't mind paying the extra 100$, if it's going to help my flow. I also wondered if I should increase the size from Muffler to Tail from the 2.25" pipe that's already there, ....to 2.5"? Only info I could find was from Ted, Engnbldr, who personally told me he doesn't mind the Header, but he's only really tested the Stock Exhaust, thoroughly, and with that he says, " Go 2" from collector to Muffler, then 2.25" from there." Well, My 4-1 collector out is 2.25", so I think I'd better use the 2.25" pipe that LCE gave me that goes to the CAT(also has the O2 sensor slot in it, which sets it back quite a bit.....wonder why they don't put it in the same location, on the header 4-1 section, in the engine bay?)

I donno know...I'll tell ya what I did.

I cut my pipe just past the little Y collector and ran 2.25 to the muffler and then 2.25 out the back. I don't have a CAT yet, I'll need one next year for inspection...I think. If you start to get too big it will not flow correctly.

Thanks, Lumpy,

Sorry to have Highjacked, ....92 told me I should come here and get an answer from you guys(you're experiencededed, lol). I guess that's what I needed to hear, "I'd personally go with the 2.25" ". I'm just not knowledgeable enough about exhaust to know what to do. I think I'll spend the extra 100$, and wait a couple days, for the 'right fit'.

If anyone else has any thoughts, please, let me know?

Any idea who might know the most about exhaust? I shot Corey a message, to ask him just that, ...haven't heard back yet. I'm not in a huge hurry, ....after all this work, I really want to do this right, ya know?
