My truck idles high and I have the Throttle position sensor Check Engine light. Ran the test on the TPS at the unit, form the ECU and adjusted it to no avail. My throttle body is pretty nasty though there is a valve inside that is rusted up and sticking. not sure what it is, Idle air bypass maybe? I have decided to replace it but they are $500 bucks online. so I am going the used rout. My real problem is i don't really understand the throttle body itself, is there anything i need to be aware of? what years are compatible? does it matter if it is a manual?

First off pull that thing out, order a new gasket, clean the living ˟˟˟˟ out of it, remove the TPS before you get to crazy. (you could get it ported a few mm while its out if you want), reinstall with new gasket, adjust the TPS.

 

I have for the most part, in some parts its beyond cleanable. Its corroded to hell, the guy i bout it from felt that strait hose water was a suitable coolant (already flushed the system)

Wow, wondering what else is corroded. Was there any coolant in there at all?

 

There was a little bit, I really don't want to know what else was corroded... Im sure ill find out...
