Question My time in the barrel - IAC/Low Idle Issue

I made the mistake (?) of cleaning the throttle body and maf as preventative maintenance with the hope of solving an occasional stall at idel and sometimes after w/o throttle applications.

I suspect that I wound up flushing some of the crud out of the throttle body an into the IAC ... D'OH !

I have been doing a lot of searching, and I found this :

Part Number Linky

And this How To on the Truck

Do the P/N's listed seem right for the '00 3.4 in the sig ?

And, anyone else have any tidbits that would be helpful ? I'd rather not pull the fool throttle body if I can help it.

Thanks in advance !

Thumbs up Update !

I do believe I have it fixed !

I followed Dr Coffees plan of attack, and put it back together . Fired her up & got the 1500 RPM idle - hmmm.

My reading had indicated that would be caused by a vacuum leak, so I looked at the hoses - one had a small slit where it plugs into the baffle box that is between the MAF & the TB. I cut the end off and plugged it back in, but no love when I fired it back up.

I noticed that one of the bellow boots that runs between the TB & the baffle box was loose, so I took that off & tightened the Phillips screw. I also noticed a tear on the baffle boot going to the TB - I want to get both sides as spares - assuming they are not megabux ....

At any rate, while the baffle box was off I decided to use a brass punch & hammer from my Land Cruiser 80 Series cone washer days and gently tap the TB around the inside area where the hole for the IAC is, and on the outer edge of the IAC where it mounts to the TB.

Something in that combo worked as when I fired it up it idled normally.

I still got the stall after WOT last night 3 times running, so I dunno if the IAC is still sticky & could cause that or there might be some other issue.

When I fired it up this morning I had the normal cold fast idle again, and on the way in to work all seems well so I think it is good - I did not flog it much, though.

I don't think I will take that baffle box off for observation again until I have the spare bellows, though.

And I did make the mistake Sunday of jacking with that throttle plate stop - 8 mm lock nut with a 2 mm allen head screw. I *think* I got that back to where the OE paint marks were together, but with the IAC working & the ECM controlling the idle I do not think it is an issue even if I was off in my adjustment.

If that is wrong, please chime in and let me know.

Hope this helps someone else !

Lightbulb Air Hose & Other P/N's

Too bad I was in a hurry and could not order these from one of the friendly online dealer parts sources we have - list prices are included below ...

  • 17881-62150 Upper bellows between resonator box & throtttle body $ 78.57
  • 17882-62010 Lower bellows between resonator and air filter box $ 57.72
  • 22271-62040 Throttle body gasket $ 6.08
  • 22215-62180 IAC gasket $ 5.50
  • 17343-62110 Idle up hose # 3 is what I believe the schematic at Toyota showed - this runs between the resonator box & a fitting below the intake and has a 90 degree bend $ 18.77

On the plus side, when I do plugs, I know how to get the resonator out of the way, and that I will not tear the new rubber ...
