88" Pickup cutting out?
So the past couple of days I have been driving my truck (88 pick-up 3.0, 4x4, rebuilt last year) and the engine cuts-out as if i were to have shut it off. No lights except a quick check engine light then back to normal. It not a hesitation its like the power just stops. I don't know what to make of this or where to start. Can someone give me a kick in the proper direction? Thanks for any replies!!

Check for a loose ground, next to battery tray on pass firewall, from igniter area to drivers side of block, and from pass rear valve cover area to firewall behind it. Also check injector wiring ground to the same spot on back pass side valve cover gasket. Is area beneath igniter getting ground? If not sure, get a wire brush and clean it up.
Check your wire connectors at the distributor, MAF, at the igniter, etc. Look for brittle wiring in these areas that could short out with a bump.
Is your coil wire to distributor clipped on securely at both ends?

So I checked my grounds and their good. I have noticed after some driving around and taking note of when this happens that it will not happen when I have my foot in it. Only when it is at about the first 1/4 of throttle position. (most of the time, not always) I can run through the gears and when I throttle off to cruise it will do it. I can almost make it do it now if i'm in the sweet spot on the throttle. TPS? I have never touched it and I have 300.000 on the truck. I didn't touch it when I rebuilt the motor last year. Thoughts? Thanks for the help!!

Have you checked for any codes? The TPS would usually give you a code. Download the Factory manual from the link in my signature, then go to "complete repair manual" and 3vz-e Engine: Mfi System: Diagnosis System (4RUNNER) Follow the diagnosis here, and narrow down the problem without having to guess or throw parts at it.

So I pulled the codes and I'm getting 4 blinks. Unless I'm looking at the wrong chart, water sensor? That doesn't make sense to me given what the problem is. Any suggestions.
Thanks

Are you sure you are counting the flashes correctly?
Malfunction Code Indication
• The light will blink a number of times equal to the
malfunction code with pauses as follows:
1. Between the first digit and second digit, 1.5 seconds.
2. Between code and code, 2.5 seconds.
3. Between all malfunction codes 4.5 seconds.
The diagnostic trouble code series will be repeated as
long as the DLC1 terminals TE 1 and E 1 are connected.

Since I have no idea where you are located from your signature, I can only guess and suggest that you can get a code scan done at most Autozone auto parts. Possibly other auto parts in your area will do this as well.

OK, Ran my codes again and you were right. I get a 14 and a 51. Witch is calling it 1st the ignition signal, 2nd, the switch signal. Would you construe this a ignition switch at the collumn problem? Thats what I'm thinking. It would make sense the way it frickin' just drops out completly for a 10th of a second then picks up again.

You need to get out your voltmeter and do some diagnostic testing. Don't start throwing parts at it.
See codes and definitions here:

Download the FSM from my signature, and go to the 3VZE MFI Diagnosis System link. Go to code 14, and click on the link to the right in that row. It will take you to the pinout and wiring information, what to test, etc. There is no easy way around trouble shooting.
If you would add where you are located to your profile / signature, there might be someone nearby that would be willing to help you!

First thing to do is to check the wiring to the TP sensor, to the Igniter, to the coil. etc, to make sure all connectors are secure. Is the coil wire to the distributor snapped in on both ends, not loose?

Just checked my coil, TP, Igniter, mass air. All plugged in good, nothing loose, fresh dialectric grease. I replaced my coil wire yesterday due to the fact it was a little short and I thought maybe it wasn't connected well.

Diagnostic check is the best option at this point. See the online version of the factory manual mentioned above, and go to the diagnostic area for code 14 to get started.
