Hi
1987, DXL, 22RE,
Instrument panel lights stay on: CHARGE, BRAKE, AT oil temp. all stay on when running.

bought new correct battery. Is the alternator going?
Just happened out of nowhere. Starts and runs fine. lights work , rear window works up and down

Classic symptom of a bad alternator. Could be as simple as the brushes. There are some tests in the Factory Service Manual that will do some basic checks, and visually you can look at the brushes. If possible, try to fix that OEM Alternator (assuming it is OEM).

Get a Multimeter read voltages it might be a poor connection

corroded connection

It is not fun to get a rebuilt Alternator then still have the same problem and a cheap rebuild as well.

Battery's about due for replacement at 4 years
Before replacing anything else, verify it is broken and ask yourself, If I replaced it would it fix my problem?

The Alternator was bad. Replaced and lights went off. Battery, after 4 years was probably something that was gonna get me this winter.
Thanks to all.

And to update, the alternator I swapped out of my 89 SR5 back in 2012 was NOT a Denso; it was marked Re-man after removal this morning , and therefore a throwaway. My 1987 dlx rig turned 253,600 btw. 2nd motor, long block from Greg Mahoney in Oregon 2014. Still a great ride to have; my other is clean, original 68 cougar, 289, stick.
