5 spd tranny
i have a 5 spd tranny out of a 1980 pickup with a 20r motor. the only problem with it is 5th and reverse gears are a little iffy .they were towing a nissan pathfinder across washington state from seattle to spokane and as they were going uphill in vantage they downshifted and missed a gear. it looks like just two gears are affected. are these easy to fix and will it bolt up behind a 22r in a 88 pickup?

it will bolt up behind any 22R but the problem with an L Series transmission out of a 1st Gen (79-83) truck is that it is 4" shorter than the W Series transmission in an 88. You would need to move the crossmember forward, lengthen the rear driveshaft and shorten the front driveshaft to make it work.
You would be better off finding a G or W series 5 speed to use as a replacement since they would be direct replacement

Besides what Dropzone said !!!
One never knows just what one may find once things like that come apart. Some parts might be very hard to find as well
I would say get a Marlin Crawler rebuilt and be done
