4Runner AC Condenser alternate source

Looking for an AC condenser for my 1988 4Runner. I have bought all new components for my entire AC system...had the Denso condenser on order from Summit Racing (everywhere else listed as out of stock), and guess what, Summit is also out of stock. Just got notified that my expected ship date from Denso is September! I've got the grille off the truck and my old condenser out....really need this last part to button it all up. I would just clean out my old one really well and re-use it, except as I was removing the big hardline that joins the 2 sections to get to the o-rings, the threaded fitting stripped out on the condenser itself, so it's really no good anymore.

The Denso Part Number is 477-0133. Rock Auto is out of stock, Summit is where I ordered from and it is also on back order. I called Jegs, since they show it on their website, but it ships direct from manufacturer, so same problem. I found a new one on eBay, I purchased it, a day later got an order cancellation and refund because they did not have the item. I suspect a lot of ebay sellers don't actually have the item, they just advertise and then drop ship right from manufacturer. I've asked questions of the seller on 2 of the other Denso condensers listed on ebay, trying to find out if those items are actually on the shelf or not.

Toyota Parts Deal allows me to add the part to my cart (item 88460-89110 for about $100 more than the price I paid from Summit), but I called them and again, the item is on backorder.

I'm running out of ideas here....any suggestions?

You will probably have the same problem, but have you tried https://www.densoproducts.com/product.aspx?zpid=11543?

They are a full line Denso distributor, but I am not sure if they have their own warehouse or if they drop-ship. You can add it to your cart, but it does not seem to show if they are in stock or not.

Let me know how this works out for you. I have been searching for a Denso condenser for 1988 pickup but they seem to be discontinued. I read in ih8mud that the 87-88 4Runner condensers are the same with an added secondary condenser

Thank you Jake. I need to start making notes because I have called so many companies. I did call denso products and I believe they told me what everyone else did, which is that it will ship from manufacturer. I will call them again though, can't hurt.

Tom, I have read the same info, that the truck condenser is just like 4runner, but missing that little extra condenser section, but I have no first-hand experience.

And here is a shot of my condenser and a close-up of the damaged port. That fitting on the hard-line linking the extra condenser section is probably internally boogered up as well.

I had the same problem when I reworked my AC on my '92. I finally broke down and ordered an aftermarket condenser and it was built wrong and did not match the part number I ordered. I contacted the manufacturer and they checked into it and admitted they were manufactured incorrectly (the brackets and fitting were made incorrectly). Fortunately my old compressor did not grenade so I was able to flush and reuse my old one. I wish you luck in finding one but I had no luck with Denso or any other one at the time for mine.

Tom - your lower fitting there is boogered just like mine, must be common. This one on ebay looks just like yours if you ask me: https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-1984-19...wAAOSwqeVdP3fJ

I'm tempted to buy just the truck version and attach my little condenser extra piece to it....although I'd need a new U shaped hardline I think.

Thank you, yeah I wish I hadn't bungled up that lower fitting, then I would re-use mine.

I am having the same problem finding an AC condenser for my 87 4runner. It has the same set up with an additional smaller condenser bolted to it. I ordered one from Amazon (Denso) that was supposedly available in Oct. My package kept being delayed until Jan 2024 when I got an email stating that my order couldn’t be fulfilled. I went to Denso’s website and tried to get it directly from the source. But the part has been DISCONTINUED… wack!

I’m wondering if anybody has found another brand that sells this style condenser or has found out they could just bolt the smaller condenser to a new one for a pickup?

I never followed up on this thread, but here's what I ended up with: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post52448787

If you don't want to click on the link, the short answer is that I bought an aftermarket condenser from brand called Pacific Best, it is parallel flow, whereas the original OEM one is not. Since parallel flow is supposedly more efficient I kindof took that to mean that maybe the parallel flow does not need the additional small condenser section.

I have had this installed for a few years now, my AC still is working good. I never owned this truck when the original R12 system worked, so its hard for me to say whether the system now with R134 and this parallel condenser is any better or worse than original. I'm in South Florida, where AC is a must, this system is not great by any means, but the weak blower, the large volume of air in the vehicle, the fact that I have a soft top that is not well sealed at the tailgate....lot of inefficiencies in my system, but still the AC works to keep me from sweating. So all in all, I have no regrets with the condenser I ended up buying.

ill also chime in. i am running a new denso unit. i added AC to my non-AC 4runner. i WISH i would have gone with the paradelle flow condenser. i have compared my oem system to other trucks running the PF and they achieve lower temps at the vents than i do by several degrees.

I have a denso condenser brand new, still in the box in my garage. I am not sure if I want to let it go though. I got it before covid years.

Thanks for the help coryc85, I think I’m going to end up doing the same and just replace it with a parallel flow one.
