IIRC, Yes, The manual tranny in my dads 99 3rz runner is actually a W59....There's a project vehicle thats in Petersons 4WD&OR mag, And they did a 3rz swap into and old 2nd gen truck...I think the 3rz's accept G and W seiries trannies...

Edit, I need to clairfy, My dads 99 3rz is a 2WD with a w59.
I dont know what a 4wd 5speed is, But you should be good to go.

If you're thinking of swapping the 22RE for the 3RZ, I've heard there are easier swaps. The exhaust of the 22RE as you know is on passengers side. On the 3RZ, its on the D-side. I assume this was so that they could put the gas cap on the drivers side. It isn't a very popular swap as far as I know.

And there are plenty of the swaps matt, Its just, most people wouldnt dare swap in an engine with less displacement gain then a can of bear...

Yeah, you know what I mean. They're on opposite sides.

I've not heard of the 3RZ being hailed as the great successor to the 22RE. i've heard of manifolds cracking though. Check the reliability first.
