I have searched and searched and searched and i cannot find anything im looking for, so im going to ask. has anyone ever seen a turbo put on a 22r? Not the 22re. i would like to swap mine but i wantes to tryy to get some info.

No i dont want a fuel injected truck. just a carburated 22r

 

Why would you want one and not the other? A turbo+carb application requires a special carb designed for boost, and just plain doesn't work as well as an injected rig will. Converting to EFI is pretty easy, and if you found an RET donor you could get a turbo and EFI all in one shot.

 

i don`t know if any one has done a 22r engine.

Now don`t forget the compression ratio would need to be lowered to run even factory boost while in there the bottom end would also need done so that does not grenade

it would take a lot of fabrication of manifolds .

Then you need to figure if you want to have the forced air through the carb or added after. This in itself takes lots of number crunching to figure the best benefit.

like all else with enough of a budget it can be done. will it be cheap ?? No way.

If you have the fully equipped shop and the skills go for it.

Lots more power can be had from a 3.4 swap and way less expensive in the end.

 

22RET is the same internals as the RE, just with lower comp pistons, the bottom end in these trucks holds together with holes in the side of the block till the bearings go dry, you won't have trouble there with reasonable boost numbers. RET manifold can be used on the exhaust side. The intake side would require some minor fab work for a blow-through setup, mostly the adapting of a larger, probably 4 barrel carb. The only real differences in the blocks is the fact the RET is plumbed to accommodate oiling the turbo but that's easy enough to figure out.

But yeah, if you wanna make power, you're fighting an up-hill battle doing it with a 22R, 3RZ swaps are getting cheaper and easier every day.

 

If one were doing all this work to an engine that could easily have 150,000 miles plus !!

Your saying you would not spend the extra money to do the bottom end. With it all apart??
