1986 4runner, No start issue

Picked up a 1986 Toyota 4Runner, 22re, 5 speed, it has been sitting for an unknown amount of time. The gas was bad, so I drained the tank and replaced the fuel pump (new Denso). When I went to start the rig, it would just fire for 1-3 seconds and die. It will start and die twice, and on the third attempt it just cranks, no fire.

I started with changing the fuel filter (wix), and no change. I had a known good AFM, and swapping that made no difference. I tried two spare circuit open relays, and no change. I swapped another ecm out of an automatic (my rig is manual), and no change. I read that the auto ecm should work on the manual, and once again it fired twice for a few seconds. I jumped the plug for the fuel pump with my m12 Milwaukee battery, and attempted to start it, and once again, no change.

I have researched this issue over the last few days, and I am a bit stuck. If it was a wiring issue with the pump, why wouldn’t it continue to run when given power directly?

Is it just firing the cold start injector? And the cylinder injectors are not firing?

Any help would be appreciated!

I must have missed it. What did you find with ... your multimeter?

Swapping parts ("known good" or not) is just about the hardest way to find the problem. Run the tests here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-quits-312747/

I do find it odd you can't get it to run with a drill battery (?) trying to run the fuel pump. (The fuel pump takes more than 4 amps; even an M12 battery would be sweating at that point. So check the voltages.)

Did you try to get it to run with starting fluid? (used sparingly).
