Fuel system problem- 4 runner wont start
So, about a week ago my truck wouldnt start, still wont. A couple times over the past months it would crank for a while before starting.. or not and me waiting some time before it would start. The last incident before now was about 2 weeks ago and I waited about a day and it started.
So, I originally thought it was a bad fuel pump issue? It would crank and crank and not start. If I sprayed some cold start in the air intake it would start up, so I figured ok, not spark but fuel. Well, I dropped the Fuel tank and grab the same model off of a toyota truck at a salvage yard. Well I decided to test them, both actually work. Now my method of testing may actually be defective and not show if its bad or weak. I found that the new pump, while the same model, the electrical hook ups were modified between mine (91 4runner) and this one, I think a 94 truck. So, I figured; before I start splicing and sodering a new connection I wanted to test the fuel pump. So, on these toyotas its a simple positive/negative configuration that when you turn the truck to on it provides current and the pump goes.. so I just hooked it straight up to the battery and placed the pump in some gas to see if worked. Well, both did. So, now im bummed out that my original thought was wrong and now im back to ground zero.
If anyone has any thoughts?
Just a little about its operation.
Its a 91 4runner, 4wd, the 3VZ 6 Cylinder.
I thought might be fuel filter.. only once started my truck has never hesitated or stumbled. It has never died on me for lack of fuel. SO, I tend to think not, since the first sign of a clogged filter is hesitation or stumbling...
So, I will say my battery has been going bad.. like really bad. Needs to be replaced.... Now that ive put a lot of effort into dropping the tank.... could it be that the Cold Start spray stuff "needs" less spark than fuel? Im not sure? Could it be my cold start injector?
HELP! I miss driving my runner and for its age it purrs.. WHEN ITS RUNNING!

one way to test the fuel pump is to have it connected like it normally would, turn the key to the "on" position and slightly open the flapper on the AFM. the flapper controls the fuel pump on and off...you should hear the fuel pump kicking on
