weird failures and lost power

i got an 85 pickup 22re a340h. its got this lack of power coming to third on even the mildest incline that sounds like im just barely pressing the gas even with a good amount of pressure. only shifts into OD if pressed real hard and completely jumps past third. fluids good and clean and runs just fine on flat ground. TPS? and the more unnerving part: every blue moon the engine will get this evil shudder with near no power. think the most I could get out of it was 4mph last time. slugged it downhill about 9 hundred yards and WOT up a small hill, where it proceeded to work just fine. the only mechanics (NAPA) have no clue and the problem only presents itself when it feels like it. been working fine for the last month or so but still uphill bogging. I need to fix these ASAP before it manifests itself again. sorry for being so long but I cant really explain any shorter

Maybe check that the AFM has good, free movement. Possibly hanging up somewhere along its range of movement?

I don't believe '85 had a VSS. Just a mechanical speedo gear on the t-case.
Since I'm not overly familiar with the auto trans, it's possible that it could get a signal from the VSS on the speedo itself?

they did apparently according to napas far reaching computer system. for those stick shifts with vss would this possibly be the culprit causing the same symptoms? my research says yes but I don't have the money to keep getting parts if its wrong. the next buy needs to be the right one

ah yes i cant believe I forgot to mention the CEL codes. when I first got the rig it would toss me 5 and 11. now im getting that as well as 6 and 10 (started after computer got wet, damned Toyota roof rust) but runs no different. now heres where it gets interesting: there have been times when I will get the light always on, never on, flashing sporadic phantom codes like 36 and 54, and just continuously flashing over and over from truck starting to turning off (all this even before the computer got wet. durable little truck I swear). good luck with that one, I need it

update: CEL same codes but will stay solid light entire time uphill above 20mph. also, idled rough at start last night. if in park with quick gas pedal jab would return to normal, in gear with or without brakes applied it would shudder then die. coming up from work this morning truck started as mentioned, died at a stop sign. snailed it up a hill but once it shifted into second I got decent power back however it was pedal to the floor but not WOT, or revs atleast. CEL stayed solid whole time again. OD worked. got to flat ground and ran as she has been like nothing changed. ive done nothing to it for months other than fill gas and no other real driving issues besides the norm but I have no clue why or how
