Temperature Switch help?
i bought a Temperature Switch for my 85 22re and its for the on right next to the thermostat. they gave me one that was to skiny and had a 2 wire plug. the one on it has a 1 wire plug and the PO put his own end on it. they looked up the part i have on it now and it showing up as a fan switch and it says that it fits my eng. my question is does this sound right or did the PO put the wrong part in? do i just need to a another one like the one by the fuel injectors? any feedback will b great. i have orderd the part and its was $80 :-( so would like to know whats up before i install and it cant be returned. thx

take a look at the attachement from angry bob in post number 6. The part you have linked is a temp swich that goes on top of the thermo housing.

according to the TSB and the part number you supplied, yes, it measures the coolant temp at the thermo housing and tells the ecu to provide more fuel at certain temps.
I have not found a certain way to test this sensor or the ohm values for it, but I happened across it while working on a hard warm start problem...

i actually ran into this same problem....i just finished replacing a 22re in my 87 4runner.
The $52 part you are referring to is the coolant temperature sensor and as said i believe its tied to your a/c.
"The top of the t-stat sender is for the A/C amplifier, assuming A/C is installed. Could also be for the A/T computer or for turbo 22RETs."
found here https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f120...sensor-203869/
anyhow i believe the xref for that part is TX62 . Most autoparts stores such as autozone, napa, oreillys, pepboys etc do not have it in stock andy they will try and sell you the single prong style you are referring too in your 1st post.
im ordering mine from carquest tomorrow its about $50
so to answer your question...if you are looking for the coolant temp sensor located on the top of your thermostat housing then YES thats the correct part.
hope that helps
