leaf springs
ok so heres the deal i have an 84 pickup as my dd and its in almost perfect shape, i really dont plan on wheelin this one that much as i will be purchasing a 1st gen as a dedicated play toy soon. my question, what do you guys think of rough contry springs for my dd, i just want it up off the ground a little bit but like i said probly wont wheel it a whole lot.. i know rough country is about as cheap as it gets but do you think there would really be a quality concern for this application?

hmm stiff huh? that doesnt sound too nice for driving 2+ hours a day. how do they handle weight? i remembered i need to carry heavy loads for work every now and again. i was thinking last night maybe putting a 3" add a leaf on there and buying some junkyard rears to go on the front what do you guys think of that?
edit: how much front lift does therears up front give ya?

I just did the OME springs all around. The ride is real nice. Once I got into the job and discovered there was no way (within reason) to reuse the old shackles I went with the Downeys. 1" over stock in front, 1.5" over stock in back. I used Energy Susp. greasable bushings. Downey builds the front shackle plates correctly from the start (imo) without using the cheap ass looking spacers.

Heres the final ride height. The tires are 33's.

If I had it to do over again I think I'd shoot for less lift. I'd probably use the Downey shackles with some new stock height replacement springs from SixStates.
Here are the SixStates part numbers: Fronts#90-114/$132.31ea. Rears#90-119/$195.31ea.

Spacers on the front shackles allow the side plates to clear the frame and allow for more shackle swing backwards. But that all depends on how much shackle angle you have. One thing to watch for on the Downey shackles is that the nuts tend to loosen and back off the inside of the shackle:

I add a pair of tabs to the outer shackle plate to keep the bolt from turning inside the shackle and working the nut loose:
