Lead paint question

I have an 84 sr5 Pickup (4wd) that I've recently acquired and I'm in the process of removing rust and paint from the body to repaint. I'm just curious as to whether or not I need to worry about lead paint exposure. I've been wearing a respirator and glasses while working, but I didn't know when toyota stopped using lead paint products. Any ideas?

Pretty sure that no lead paint was used for any US applications after 1978...At least that's the deal for houses.

Wear a respirator anyway just because the dust from any kind of sanding is nasty to breath, but you're safe on the lead. The 1978 law extends to all paints, not just house paint. Their paint was supposedly less environmentally friendly than our paints due to more lax standards overseas though.
